Me and my mate finally got a car cheap. The owner siply didn't want it but it is in really good shape. The only thing that doesn't work is the boot as the gas struts are worn out so we used a piece of wood! It is a Volvo v40 estate 1.9 tdi and it's ok but what shall we do with it. We got it for £100 and it has 135000 on the clock. We have a dirt track and a barn and a budget of £50. What shall we spend the money on. ( For those not so fimiliar with their cars(why are you on this forum) here is a picture, it is silver not blue) $_86.JPG

Well, don't wreck it on a silly track

you got one hell of a car, would be shame to just destroy it for fun.
135k mil is pretty low, here the main turn of buy/not buy a car for daily use is 200k km

The only problem it that I didn't inform you about is that it has been in a crash and there is a major problem with the anti-roll bars. This means when I contacted the insurance company they said they will insure it but at a high cost. Also this meant it failed it's MOT which means it cannot be insured or taxed and the damage costs according to a mechanic friend I have will be around the £700-800 mark. I am not spending that.

Call around some local wreckyards and ask if they don't have a rear ended volvo just like this you could get the anti rollbars from, should be relatively cheap as parts, but then again, it depends on how damaged it is.

You got this car for insanely cheap, and with some very simple fixes you can sell it and make some good money.
Don't wreck a car this nice. Make some money off of it and buy 3 crappy cars to wreck or something.

We only have £50 to repair £700 worth of damage. We might turn it into a stock car.

    Save up to fix it.
You'd be wasting so much money by destroying it.
If you fix it up and sell it you could buy 5 cars to turn into stock cars.

You can get a sway bar cheap.
It's just a big hunk of steel.
What is the problem with them anyway? Are they broken, are the mounts fubar'd, are they twisted?

They have kind of embedded themselves into the floor of the car.

Maybe you should take some pictures so we could see the actual state of the car and what kind of damage it has.

Pull the rollbar out. Find out which bits of it are broken. Replace them from scrap yard. £50 gets a lot at a scrappy.

How bad was the accident it's been in? Can you photograph the chassis rails? If it's a cut'n'weld then do not even bother to consider making it roadworthy. Knock the windows out, reinforce the cockpit and send it banger racing.

just get a hammer, duct-tape, and some metal bars and you could fix about £100 worth of damage in the frame and dents.

That £700 bill is going to be based on new parts. Scrappy ftw.
