This is a great! Super easy to use. I hope eventually all the vanilla assets will be in there as well. So good!
I wonder if anyone already did something with this tool, also what feature would be most useful? The program was focused on pbr terrain first because setting that up could be tricky.
I started looking into level creation a few months ago and this tool really helped a lot as it is difficult to get one's head around how things work at first. What I remember as being confusing at first was that not all the ground materials were working "out of the box". Now that I've been fiddling with the level editor and different methods to do things (mostly terrain, roads, trees, static meshes and their materials) and have some understanding of how materials and things work, I'm planning to start a new project to try some things I've learned over the past months. I plan to use your tool again to get started and will hopefully be able to give better feedback then. I'm planning to do this in the next few days unless life has other plans.
Ok, so I did quickly make a new map using this tool. Don't have much to add in terms of feedback as it only took like 2 minutes and everything pretty much worked right away. A compact guide on how to add/make/copy/link terrain materials would be nice but I'm not sure how to approach this. Most tutorials focus on combined base textures but in a creative workflow solid color base materials are better imo - the difference between these was hard to understand at first. EDIT: a short video on how to get a new map up and running and add some terrain materials and start sculpting terrain would be brilliant, maybe there is one out there already? If not I just might make my first video tutorial some day Also: This tool is somehow much better than copying a map and starting that way.
Make sure you have net 6.0-desktop installed https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/6.0 Every time this comes up, I must wonder; Why the hell did Microsoft stop delivering these with windows?
Hm, just an empty console for 1 frame… no idea why that happens, but thanks ^^ You might want to try this one, it’s a self-contained version of the program, so it should work without needing a .net installation. Just replace the exe file with it and see if it works.
I use your tool to copy over terrain materials and vegetation to my map. I just name the level in your tool the same way like my map and then it’s easy to insert the stuff to the main materials. You made a typo in your code. Instead of vegetation you have vagatation. BeamNG then makes a new missiongroup. Your tool really helps a lot! Thanks.
Nice & thx for the report. Once i have the cdae stuff far enough, i think i revistit this. Adding assets directly to an existing map should be an easy and usefull feature ^^
I already have a branch in my mapping tool project for that. Work half done and lost interest. I wanted to use your terrain reader writer for that but didn’t find the time to make experiments.
this tool doesn't work anymore :| --- Post updated --- nevermind! i just need to change the file path lol, spoke too soon, it just blips a window for a second then disappears
After little fiddling with world editor, now the asphalt ground is transparent despite being visible in scene tree. Moreover, any more new templates I create with the tool, has transparent asphalt too. I have no idea how to revert this Please help me create a working template
