Not a skill issue, the only truly good road for rally is the section from the Settlement to the pits and even that is a bit iffy.
I wonder if we could get a 90's supercar with bus tail lights, now that we have the school bus with round off the shelf lights
Disclaimer this is a quick PS not real but please devs, we need the mk2 escort in BeamNG. Devs have been heavily rally focused lately, so why not choose some iconic rally cars? Escort, Levin, Nova, I could go on & on but I'm thinking of the old beginner cars of rally racing.
you did not have to ai-generate these we also already have the miramar, bx, and barstow anyway, adding these would be pretty redundant
miramar coupe > ford escort bx > levin barstow > nova (i just realized that he's probably talking about the vauxhall nova, which is just a covet) they're not the same, but they're close enough. adding cars that are only slightly different just to satisfy one specific car model is a huge waste of time.
With the Miramar, I can definitely see how similar it is to the Escort. The Escort is a bit smaller and lighter than the Miramar (~900 kg and 4m long/1.57m wide, vs. ~1050 kg and 4.3m long/1.69m wide), and it would give us another old-school Euro car, but there's not too many other significant differences. The AE85/86, on the other hand, is a fair bit more different from the BX. Not only it is a lot lighter (~950-1050 kg vs. ~1250-1300 kg), but it also uses a live rear axle (whereas the BX has multilink at the rear). Granted, I don't think something like that would be made (as the BX is probably close enough for the devs), but it'd at least have a stronger chance than a Mk2 Escort. The Vauxhall Nova (which is completely different from the Chevrolet Nova) is closer to the Covet, albeit much lighter (~750-850 kg, vs. ~1000-1050 kg). I think it'd work well as a Euro alternative to the Piccolina, although it's probably still too close to the Covet for the devs to make something like it.
A car based on the Ford Escort MK2 could be extremely versatile and customisable, as it comes in 2 and 4 door saloon, 3 door estate and van bodystyles. It has many different configurations including race cars, rally cars, burnout cars, drag cars, drift cars and gymkhana cars and could be an entry point for European Gavril models (I already conceptualised an Escort Mk2 clone using ChatGPT called the Gavril Verra) It could have a modular design and would fill a niche for a 1970s RWD European economy car which you could build up from a barebones 1.1L econobox to a performance car The Miramar lacks performance options, is Japanese and a decade older and doesn’t really fit for 70s and 80s style European rally, and is more of a classic JDM style economy car, rather than a 70s European family car with dedicated and extensive performance options along with extensive involvement in motorsports. It also has van and estate body styles and is more versatile for a wider range of scenarios than the Miramar The game lacks cars which have a classic Euro feel and it would be extremely good for vintage rally scenarios The argument that a Ford Escort type vehicle is too similar to the Miramar is kind of redundant, considering that the game has not one but three different FWD midsize cars from the 80s and 90s (The LeGran and both Pessima’s) All the same vehicle at their core, but one is from a different country and they all have slightly different levels of customisation and the types of configurations vary depending on when they are from, and the country. I reckon it could be the same with an Escort type vehicle, due to having being a decade newer and being European and having much more dedicated customisation and tuning, along with covering a more broad configuration spectrum
I wonder how they'd put an Escort type car into the lore. Would they put it into an existing Euro brand, make a new British one, or make "Gavril Europe"
for the Gavril Barstow, I would like to see a model year shift by 2-5 years or a redesign of the rear end bc the current design reminds me more of a higher-end pony car with some styling cues from cars from the beginning of the malaise era. Also, I think the roof not having a parallel section to the beltline makes the windshield seem much bigger than it actually is, which makes the car feel oddly proportioned. The AMC Gremlin-like shape of the quarter windows probably doesn’t help either, contributing to a massive looking greenhouse.
Oh, I'm aware that a Mk2 Escort would be a fair bit different from the Miramar, and I'm not against something like that being added to the game - it's just that from the devs' perspective, the Miramar probably is close enough to a Mk2 Escort that they don't feel the need to make another small pre-1980 live-axle FR sedan/coupe. As for the Pessimas and LeGran - yes, they are quite similar, but they also were conceived 13 years ago, so they were going to be in the game regardless. (And the Wendover was changed to a coupe to not have yet another FF sedan of that era.) We're talking about a (quite different) dev team who would probably have bigger priorities than making another whole new car (something that takes many months and thousands of dollars) to end up with (to them) a smaller Miramar. Honestly, I feel like the Barstow needs a significant redesign at this point - those huge bumpers irk me a fair bit.
well guess why we had to wait so long for a minivan or supercar? it was only during the vivace update when the devs realized they had to begin adding more variety to the roster, which is how we ended up getting things like the wydra or nine in just 3-4 years. also, just because the miramar isn't european and from the 70s doesn't mean it can't be a substitute. the hopper isn't american, but it's practically a jeep, and the mr turbo was produced after group b ended - it's the physical characteristics of the car that matters. again, adding cars with minor physical differences to satisfy a specific irl model is a waste of time and should be held off until the necessary niches are covered. we still need things like a 50s - 60s grand tourer or a modern midsize sedan.
Okay, fair enough, but it will still be fun as possibly a mod Some cars I think could have a more distinct archetype and a more of reason to be added are an American sports car from the 2000s (Corvette/Viper hybrid), a late 2000s and early 2010s hybrid in the style of the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight, a front engine front wheel drive British city car in the style of the original Mini, a 1970s full-size American luxury car (Cadillac/Imperial style), a 1960s British or Italian GT car and a 1960s to 80s rear engine euro sports car inspired by the original Porsche 911 and Alpine A110
I just wanna know if there's been any significant progress on those. The last time we heard about tire thermals was in the 0.27 devblog in 2022.
I hope the upcoming devblog they mentioned is actually going to be a dev update talking about things like this and not just them referencing the next update in like 4 months... Its been a long time since they have done a proper devblog just going over future things rather than a changelog for the updates
since it was not made in america i don't see it happening. It is best to keep the european cars away from the game.
Yeah, the vehicle variety has gone way up in the past five years in particular. Not just in the types of vehicles, but in how many bodies they have. The vehicles which were conceived in the early stages of the game (pre-0.5) were: -Sedans: Miramar, Pessimas, LeGran, Grand Marshal, Bluebuck, Wendover (originally), Burnside, I-Series, Sunburst -Coupes: Moonhawk, Barstow, BX, Bolide -Hatchbacks/Wagons: Covet, SBR (shooting brake) -Trucks: D-Series, T-Series, Pigeon -Vans: H-Series -SUVs: Roamer Since the start of new vehicle additions in 0.5.2 (with the 800 Series), we've gotten: -Sedans: Bastion, Piccolina, 800 (in 0.29), Nine -Coupes: Wendover, Nine, K-Series, Wigeon, Miramar, Scintilla, Burnside -Convertibles: Nine, Scintilla, Bolide -Hatchbacks/Wagons: FCV, 800, LeGran, Sunburst, Covet (MR Turbo), BX (liftback) -Trucks: D45, TC-Series, MD-Series, Stambecco, Miramar, Nine, Covet (trailer version) -Vans: Stambecco, Nine, Lansdale -SUVs: FCV, Hopper, D-Series (Charro) -Off-Roaders: Dunekicker, Rockbouncer, Wydra, Aurata, Piccolina (Autobuggy) -Buses: Wentward, MD-Series Honestly, as much flak as I give the devs from time to time for not adding various things, I am happy that we're getting a much broader spread of vehicle types compared to the pre-0.5 roster. And we're now able to do a lot more with most of the vehicles that got remastered. The only major exception to that last part is the '96 Pessima, which somehow got less new content in its full remaster than the Miramar and Burnside got in their refreshes.
