What bad precedent? "A game that launched on Steam and got 10 years of free updates may eventually be released on other storefronts and continue receiving free updates on all platforms"? I don't see anything problematic here. Now, if Epic had bought out BeamNG and delisted it from Steam/restricted Steam updates, that would be something worth getting upset about. This is just another option for (some) people. Quality DLCs should be things that add value to the game (not paywall planned content) and help the devs support this game that we all love. Modders already sell vehicles of varying quality on the forums, so it doesn't seem unreasonable to me for the devs to release their own high-quality paid vehicles as additions to the game (i.e. not replacing the free vehicles we get now with updates). But as tdev pointed out, it would probably be good to wait until things like the campaign and UI overhaul are finalized.
supply a key for epic if you have steam version? i orignally bought from humble and got supplied steam key, didnt really want to go to steam version but got a bit annoying after a while downloading or waiting for humble to update to current version. much rather with epic if dont have to run a epic/steam client while playing
Humble bundle does offer zip downloads as well, you do not need to use the steam key. That being said, i don't think giving keys out for the platforms work, but let me check with people that know it better than me
This sounds like a steam + hardware / operating system issue? We certainly do test and this is new. Can you please explain what is the issue in more detail? Steam patches files, so the download is smaller, but requires more disc-space for patching, this is a quite common procedure how things work with steam
Thanks for being an awesome community, we try our best. We certainly did not see the negative emotions coming up before...
Thanks for being awesome devs!!! I have my gripes about epic, but I trust you folks completely. I often tell my friends that beam has the best dev team that I've ever come across. Keep up the great work and don't pay too much attention to the folks who are overreacting to this!
What bad precedent???????? So "They are unlikely to even lose anything but they have a chance to gain something"? Seems like a good market strategy to me.
Saying "Spearheaded" is a bit odd when other companies have a history of doing it way earlier, and nothing about what Epic does to me sounds like bad or illegal business..
steam works on windows 8.1 (idk about windows 7) "unsupported" means you are not supported, not that you cant use it. it doesn't mean you cant use steam --- Post updated --- to my knowledge atleast
They are never being forced, they are being offered an exclusivity deal in return for a chance to make money, some take them, ohers dont. Exclusivity deals have been a thing since the Nintendo vs Sega console wars.
We all make mistakes, in this case it is no biggie. We are just looking out for our favorite game, and our favorite devs
I wouldn't even call this a mistake. They have proven trustworthy at every turn and being on another marketplace only opens the door for more players/money for development.
