Actually you can add basic meshes (Cube, Cone, Torus, etc.) to the JBeam when in Edit Mode under the "Add" menu.
I have released v0.2.1 which fixes some bugs! https://github.com/BeamNG/Blender-JBeam-Editor/releases/tag/v0.2.1
It's very nice! My only gripe with it is that nodes get deselected after you transform them in any way, leading to them needing to be selected once again after moving/scaling multiple.
Warning: Editing JBeam files is broken in this version I have released v0.2.2 which adds a couple of new features including: Retaining node selection after moving them Face flipping Batch node renaming And fixes more bugs! https://github.com/BeamNG/Blender-JBeam-Editor/releases/tag/v0.2.2
I have released v0.2.3 which fixes a lot of important bugs (it fixes a bug introduced in v0.2.2 with editing JBeam files in the text editor). FYI, I will be taking a break from this project for a while due to other priorities. https://github.com/BeamNG/Blender-JBeam-Editor/releases/tag/v0.2.3
Sorry for using an old thread, this is somewhat related with the post that the post I answered was answering to. I wasn't able to have any option other that to name nodes, with and without beams and triangles in the jbeam file or converting a model to jbeam inside blender or opening a jbeam file. Tested both blender 3.6 and 4.1, only the option for nodes naming appears. Also tested a vanilla jbeam and the problem is the same. Didn't find anyone with the same exact problem, and in the user documentation this configuration doesn't appear. User guide images (https://github.com/BeamNG/Blender-JBeam-Editor/blob/main/docs/user/user_docs.md): My experience:
I was just now trying to find the download of the plugin, and I'm not finding it. You are most likely correct. Updated blender, changed file and didn't remember to update the most relevant thing. I probably have the version from the first release and only now that I need to use the plugin to build a decent size structure the limitations arose.
I've managed to get this all functional. I've been editing the code through VS studio, and updating in the garage to see changes. it was too guess and check for me to do anything quickly, and thought this might be faster, easier to visualize. my end goal is to play with front suspension to create a "drift angle" mod that works.... here I am with a CAMSO front suspension import beam, and having a hard time even understanding what I'm looking at.... when I'm moving fh6r and fh6l am I moving the steering rack mounting points????
I`m currently experimenting a bit with the JBeam editor and the option, shown in the picture is not showing up. Do I have to do some additional steps or is it not working curently? The image was taken from the github site.
Hmm I checked the docs but didn't see it, must be just a left over picture. But yeah that feature isn't available currently.
