Adding onto the topic of "hardcore mode" and such, any chance that we will have difficulty settings when making a new save, like most games, you usually can choose (easy, medium, hard).
Difficulty settings could maybe affect how much insurance helps you. And Hard difficulty could potentially turn off fastravel, and when you total your car, you loose it completly and cannot repair it.
I feel like difficulty settings are pretty important, you can have more "personalized" experience, and they will make career mode have more longevity, for example, if you beat the game on easy mode, you have higher chance replaying and choosing a harder difficulty to get a "new" experience.
One feature some of us will really like is hardcore mode, similar to minecraft, if you total your car, you loose the save (you die). It will make for some interesting videos, and some people might even try speedrunning. Some of us like rougelikes/lites and to suffer, and nothing will get your blood pumping more than being a second away from loosing your save if you arent careful.

Honestly, I kinda like the idea of difficulty based on mission to mission basis, kinda like old GTAs, where you get some easy missions, but also some insanely difficult missions coexisting with each other. And in the context of Beam that might incentivise the player to try out harder missions to get bigger rewards and basically "git gud" lol, with each mission ranked by their difficulty. Sorta a linear progression of difficulty the farther you go, and the bigger the rewards

Now when you eventually run out of missions I guess that's where "travel to another map" can come in, but also maybe there can be some missions that can be endlessly generated

I've pointed out a few times in throughout this thread so far that personally I love the idea of a "hardcore mode" or as I have been referring to it through development, "Extreme" mode. Allowing players to pay full price for their repairs is already implemented in our current (not yet released) build, so for the players who want to make every dollar count, or every repair count, this will provide them a path!

This is the primary goal: Start off easy and accessible, then move to greater and greater challenges/gameplay.

In the current Steam release, you cannot unfortunately - the core systems were under heavy WIP. In the current build it is possible and we will get some painting functionality out for the next release for sure, it's been killing me not being able to paint my career rides!! Don't worry, we've got you covered! :)

I had a few ideas for the career mode that are near impossible to implement, but I figured I’d share them anyway.

first off I think it would add another layer of realism if there was a chance to get a flat tire that could be changed on the road with tools in the trunk. The option of towing could still be there, but it would be nice to see an on the fly repair system. How would you take the tire off? I think something where the player has a small inventory and could pick up tools from the shop to bring with them and put in the trunk would add another layer of realism that is very in depth. Maybe the system for fixing the car could be similar to Car Mechanic Simulator or My Summer Car. This idea of maintenance could be expanded into almost any part in the car if there was a parts store you could get individual part models from and change them out assuming you had the tools to do so.

Expanding from the first idea is that being able to run a mechanic shop as a career choice (maybe even the main goal of the game) would open up so much to the game. Maybe it starts out as a junky garage that you fix cars in either to sell or as customer jobs, but eventually you can buy a better shop (or expand the original) with a separate mechanic shop, body shop, paint booth, junkyard, towing service, or even a chop shop for an illegal career path.

Moving into the third idea, the first two ideas would benefit greatly from used cars having preexisting damage either to the body, running gear, or engine. This level of damage could be dependent on mileage and year, this might affect the price of the vehicle as well. Maybe an insurance auction site where you can buy totaled vehicles to fix, drive, and sell, or a fancy auction site to buy high end or rare cars would be nice to see. Maybe even be able to have a used car dealer of your own where you can sell fixed cars.

A nice late game addition to the mechanic career that would be a nice way to spend money could be buying a race car and entering in weekly races. There could be different leagues too like road courses and oval racing, single model, banger racing, rallycross, drag racing, drifting, or even demolition derby’s.

another career path could be taxi driving as a separate business (or addition to the mechanic shop) or you could apply to be a taxi driver for another company. Being able to apply as a bus driver at the bus station would be a nice addition too since the mission already exists. A trucking buisiness would be nice to see as well, maybe you can sign up to be a truck driver for a delivery company, or have your own company that delivers goods to houses from warehouses and stores. Adding to that idea could be a postman job where you load up a van with boxes marked with an address and drop it off in front of the door.

Overall I know that half of these ideas are near impossible to implement, but if individual parts could be removed (at very least into a shop inventory CMS style) it would open so many doors with owning a shop and fixing your own damage. The idea of adding tools that are required to remove parts and do certain tasks adds so much progression to the game along with the other career options.

Thank you so much for reading!

First time post so sorry if this has already been covered, but I absolutely love what you are doing here! Couple suggestions...

Organization of parts lists would help.
    Selling old used parts perhaps?
More statistics/data of the car itself. (Horsepower, torque, fuel mileage, etc.)

Probably not a simple task things I noticed would be huge. Thanks again for providing such an amazing game.

Wear of brake disks and pads! And also in the future we are waiting for tire wear.
It would also be nice to see the wear and tear on the engine components and other things

Yeah it would be cool if cars could have for example a blown turbo or other mechanical failures, simply because of their mileage

To be fair his suggestions wouldn’t have much impact on freeroam (tirewear yes but not disc wear) because you reset your car very often. But in career mode, when you drive a car that has been driven 100.000km (whether driven by yourself or bought like that) it would be nice to have mechanical issues like irl

I don’t reset my car much. (At least, I try not to) I see your point, though.

Brake disc and pad wear can be quite fast in race mode, I also play "Assetto Corsa Compitizione", in this game not only tires need to be changed, although the wear of parts there is increased by 7 times if I'm not mistaken, but even if you make the real time wear 1 to 1, most people won't even have to change pads for the whole game, but for me personally it would be interesting to keep track of the % of wear while playing, the very fact of wearing these parts can immerse you even more in the game)!

Anyway, this feature would be the cherry on the cake, and would not affect performance in any way.

Please, feel free to share any ideas and feedback you may have for Career Mode, this thread exists for the purpose of discussing development and sharing info! =) Things like brake wear, tire wear, and more, are all ideas we're excited for regarding Career Mode, and having more chatter and input from the community is very welcomed!

I have an idea of how Light Runner could be integrated into the main Career mode. there could be an arcade building in some maps where it would be appropriate, and you could walk in and play some of the whackier scenarios, like the one infinite runner in the d series, or light runner.
