The current gear changing logic of automatic transmissions in game is already very advanced and close to real cars. However, there are ways it can be improved. 1. The shutting off of fuel injection is too aggresive in game. Most vehicles in game completely shuts off fuel injection during coasting on gear D and restores until lower than 15 km/h, which is extremely low and very unsual in real cars. Most modern cars restores fuel injection at higher speeds, which is usually 20-40 km/h, and some older cars can be as high as 70 km/h. Some very old cars does not shut off fuel injection at all. 2. The throttle is totally power-output related, but not speed related in game. Modern cars automatically reduce gear and increase gas input on higher loads such as uphills to maintain speed, despite holding the same gas paddle position and not manually pressing any deeper by the driver. However, automatic transmissions in game is not capable of doing this, the automatic transmissions in game neglects any external load changes. 3. The performance of automatic transmissions in game is too ideal. Most cars in game have a very responsive and immediate downshift when depressing the gas to 50%-60%. However, even many modern cars, especially on eco mode, downshifts very reluctantly. Even floor-gassing the car, cheaper vehicles usually downshifts with a very high delay. This difference in transmission performance and style should be reflected in game. 4. The in-game gear changing logic is only gas-position determined, but not pressing-speed related. Modern vehicles in reality show very different acelerating behavior when depressing gas from, for example, 0-40% slowly, and 0-40% quickly. Many cars does not even downshift if you depress the gas to 100 % slow enough.
Have you tried the Automatic Transmission Logicmod from @default0.0player? It does improve the behaviour of automatic transmissions dramatically
I've tried the mod. It did some really great work on revising the shifting map and torque converter bahavior. But it still did not do things I mentioned.
