    Yes, and I like it, but I can see their point, too. It’s a little to obvious (for them), like calling a Corvette a Gavril Frigate.

    For context, a Corvette is a small and maneuverable ship and a Frigate also happens to be a ship.

    I mean it wouldn't matter to me, makes no difference, corvette or frigate, falcon or hawk. I think the name is intentionally as it is and even if I didn't like it @Bakasan is free to name it Pineapple on pizza for all it really matters.

    Exactly. A lot of similarities overlap, but they’re not the exact same. Just like Falcon and Hawk.

    While I do appreciate the advice, I don't think I will be changing the name, I have a few reasons for this which I will try to explain:)

    First of all coming up with a good name is hard, and I am by no means the best at creating original sounding names. There is a reason why real life car companies hire entire entire marketing teams to come up with names for their cars...

    Same thing applies to vehicle design as well, coming up with a truly original design for a new car is not something that a single person can realistically (successfully) do.

    For this reason, for my lore friendly vehicles, instead of taking the 'BeamNG' approach of "this car could exist IRL it is not based off of any car", I am going to take the GTA approack of paryoding (in a good way, not taking the piss like GTA lol) real life vehicles (both in terms of design and naming), but adding my own creative twist to create something that is familiar but original at the same time:)

    I think there is a reason why no matter how many times we are told that a 64 Ibishu Miramar is its own unique design, you will always get people who be like 64 Miramar = Toyota Corona:p

    Ultimately designing a car, for this game, to be enjoyed by BeamNG players, versus designing a car at a car company to be sold to the public are two completely different environments, the latter being something undertaken by a whole team of atrists and engineers (with years of experience in the field) and also taking into account the endless amounts of regulations that need to be conformed to.

    My point is basically is not something that a single game artist can realistically pull off well, the result will either be close enough to a real car (such as the Covet is to the EF Civic), and if it is not then expect mixed reception such as what was experienced with the SBR4:p

    With that in mind, while the BeamNG team with its skilled team of artists may be able to work something out, for me as a single modder coming up with a truly unique design, along with all of the lore to go along with it, for every single vehicle, is just too much of a hassle. Instead I (and I suspect a lot of other community members) would rather see their favourite cars, but reinvisioned with a bit of a creative twist.

    So yeah to sum up I literally chose the name Hawk because it could have been the Falcon in an alternate universe, and also Gavril Hawk just has a nice ring to it. This is also another huge point, I am not really a fan of awkward sounding names such as say the Ibishu Pancreas or Gavril Badmington, that just sound silly. I would 1000% rather having a unoriginal sounding name, but with a nice ring to it like the Gavril Stallion (which if ever I do a lore friendly Mustang will be called that don't @me) than say the Gavril Iacocca (which may be a bit more creative but just sounds wrong :p)

    I dunno, but in this BeamNG universe I like to think that Aussie car manufactures made a bit of a comeback and were given the resources to be able to continue to produce great cars :)
    yeah, I would like to do a USDM version of the Hawk, though it will differ a bit fromn the aussie counterpart in specs and trim, and also given there is so much already to do on this project (which I was hoping would be relatively simple compared to some of my more ambitious ideas) I might add it later, as in aftert the initial release:)

    My goal with this (and my other projects) is to use a workflow such that makes it easier to do things such as change or add new bodystyles without destroying textures ect.., which will make things easier for future me, as well as any community modders that may want to do something crazy with my mods:cool:

    For instance BeamNG's cars have baked normal maps for the body/panel gaps, so changing the position of the mesh at all destroys the normals and requires rebaking all the textures. For my cars I probably will not even use a normal map for the paintwork, instead relying on the geometry, bevels and weighted normals for a good hard surface finish (though I will likely use a normal map for texture, such as simulating orange peel, underside rock resistend paint ect..) I will also use tiled/procedural textures as much as possible, which for a car honestly can achieve pretty good results (as opposed to say a human character), which will make it much easier to edit things for future me as well:D

    In layman's terms, it'll awfully take more work on flipping a RHD dash to LHD, and as well with modifying the JBEAM for the steering as well right?

    no that will take me the best part of 5minutes:D

    in laymans terms the American hawk will have different styling, configs, engine choices ect... which will take time to figure out:p
    i.e if I do a USDM version I will do it properly (will likely have to have different taillights too lol, seeing as the amber reverse ligths would never fly over in hamburger land xddd)
    and doing things properly unfortunately takes time:(

    and yeah Australian cars tended to have thicker steel (as was the case with I believe the VB Commodore, as well as AUDM R31 Skylines) to better cope with rugged conditions, so simulating this will also need somne tedious jbeam work

    damn, is making rhd variants of cars really that simple? makes me even more miffed there isnt a full rhd pack for all vehicles. hell, i could make it. i wont, but i could. possibly. theoretically

    Holden/gm actually invested quite a lot in making a car that was already road worthy suitable for the aussie bush, can't imagine ford was any different.

    Right, now i am obliged as an Australian to set this record straight, the VB Commo and to a lesser extend the VC, VH were NOT suited to aussie conditions, much like the original export Falcons that arrived here in '60, only the little badge engineered Opels (which incidentally would be all holdens) would quite spectacularly completely snap in half... Literally after a few hundred kays, at least by 1965 Ford fixed their weak suspensions (though the body structures were all ways a little willowy) and holdens were usually the strongest built, then came 1978 and 30 years of building *cough*badge engineering*cough* cars for aussie soil was thrown away whilst Ford only got better and Chrysler was doing Chrysler things. Took at least until the '90s for holden to make a strong car again

    huh, I was pretty sure I read somewhere they made a few changes to the opel chassis for the VB so they would be better suited to aussie conditions but they must have blundered that I guess:p
    As a Holden guy myself I am happy to accept that maybe we didn't have the strongest cars, though at least we did have the fastest:cool:

    Once the Hawk is done I'm tempted to do a lore friendly VB-VL Commodore for my next project, where I literally take the ETKI jbeam and put a live axle in the rear, job done:cool::cool::cool:

    Yeah you do have a point the Charger and the GTHO are pretty fast (otherwise I wouldn't make a mod based heavily on one of them:p) but still no match for this smol boi;):p
    (you can see a charger in the background trying to keep up, and a GTHO likely out of shot with busted goodyears lol)


    Plus I would still rather a have blown VL turbo on a tilt truck than have a working EA falcon (which is just going to blow up anyway so yeah :p)

    In terms of the mod though I have not really had as much free time as I would like so progress has slowed a bit:( currently got the main dials positioned so they should be nice and vivible, bust have to boolean and all that fancy stuff to get a nice and complete dash, might even work on the dial lettrering to get that out of the way (it will be its own material anyway so should be fine to do it now)

    if the damn pit crew didnt use cold lug nuts in the great race in '71 then Chrysler would've won, those toranas are absolute deathtraps and were never designed to take the stresses of such a racey engine in driveline, suspension and body. The amount of people who were injured in crashes by those things due to a combination of under experience and bad inherent stability of those things is staggering. They are seriously dangerous cars that should've never been sold to the public no less allowed on a race track
