They are like that because they’re mail delivery vans, designed so the mail can be delivered to mailboxes without the driver having to keep getting in and out
To a addition to my previous comment about the GPA variant, I would say that because of how hard I would think it would be there would not have to be a working sailing mode, it could maybe just be a variant which makes it look like the GPA's in real life. But I would think the sailing mode would make it more likely to be a separate mod from this!
Finally, a stock Willys jeep mod !! Looks amazing and the only things I’d suggest is possibly shrinking/ recessing the lights farther back and making a step in the top edge of the fascia for a more authentic look. Also possibly widening the grille slats to almost touch the headlights, as it looks a tad under size. Only nerds would notice it, but the devils in the details at least for me. Splendid work.
gotcha. EDIT: after a bit messing at the top, this happend: --- Post updated --- as said, im doing it in the millitary config. i almost got stuck here my dog is peeing on the floor (XD) Guns Up! Windshield Down! Struggling to get up here, still a pain. Almost there! 97% done! 98%... 99%... A N D F I N I S H ! ! !
I've been working on and off on a Willys Jeep mod for the last year. Never bothered announcing anything as it is still a long way from a releasable state, and then you go and drop this masterpiece of a mod. I'm not even mad! Now I get to drive a Jeep around months earlier than expected! I had a lot of functional and non-functional parts (maybe just pipe dreams) planned for mine, but never even started to model them, as first I'd need to get a basic vehicle finished. Seeing as you've achieved just that, and to such a high standard no less, I suppose there's no need for me to continue on with my own project now. Which leads me to asking you a question. Are you planning on adding any more parts to your GPV over time? I've got a whole stack of parts I wanted to create for mine and was wondering if you're planning on any of the following features (or would mind if I made an expansion pack to add some of these to your mod)? - Animated/interactive cockpit (range selector, etc) - Canvas roof - Bar tread tires - Vertical slat grill (both military MB and civilian CJ-2A style) - Military body with axe/shovel, handles etc - Civilian body with tailgate - Rear tow hook and tandem hook front bumper. (Gavril B-Series mod features this and it's pretty fun) - Front PTO winch (driven by the transmission if possible to simulate) - "Desert Rats" setup - More skins Regarding that last point, I was having a go at making a rusty skin myself. It looks decent for the most part, however I discovered that your UV map assigns a very tiny area for the interior of the vehicle, meaning that any detail not on the outside is very low resolution. You can see this in the last photo, as well as various bits of bodywork which do not share the same material. I considered reworking the UV map for my own personal use, but that would just make the model incompatible with other skins, so I didn't bother. What would you think about the prospect of altering the UV to allow for more detailed skins at some point in the future? This is an incredibly well made mod, but I am hungering for more parts!
Aren't those the odd-looking busses i often see in photographs of traffic in the phillipines? On-Topic: Excellent mod, i've been hoping for a "classic" jeep for a very long time. Ever since the Hopper came out, as a matter of fact.
That's one thing that for sure won't happen. It would require nearly as much work as making an entire new car. That's pretty cool For the skin UVs, I'm actually using a 2 UV setup like most vanilla cars. The skin UV is really more designed for ease of use with making "standard" skins. For a rusty skin you can use the other UV map, which has all the surfaces mapped equally and should work fairly good. If you want I can send you either just the template for it, or an export of the shell with only that UVmap if that makes your job easier with whatever software you're using. For the rest, some of it I don't plan on doing myself for sure, like the grille, however if you want, you can do it for sure. Animated controls is on my list of things I'd like to add for the next proper update, but I also have a bunch of projects I'm working on, so if you want to try making some stuff for it, go ahead.
If it's not too much of an inconvenience for you, that would be very much appreciated. I briefly tried using the first UV map in Substance Painter but had some issues with it aligning correctly, and couldn't re-bake without having the original high-poly model. I may be able to get around this with some more experimentation, but anything you can provide would be a great help! Related: I noticed now that my use of normals on the rusty texture has overwritten the normals that should be on the bodywork, so the hood and the bed look flat. Another reason to switch to using the other UV map for such a texture. Unrelated: I added another variant of the wheel that can be coloured using the third colour selector option. Now I can recreate some original civilian Jeep colour schemes!
