Re: General discussion chat But paying £200 all at once isn't exactly what I want. Plus 1tb in onedrive for all my useless stuff.
Re: General discussion chat Sure, but there too is many distros that are free, and everything that comes with them is free as well, all (okay, big portion of) programs and all other stuff is not only free, it is accesible to customize. In the world of win at the other hand, you don't even buy the product, you just buy a license to use the program, and if you anyhow tried to customize the program you would get sued (win itself, for example); would not happen here, that is the perk of opensource And i don't blame the game industry for requesteing money, because they often do it for the money, but not always. There is also many and many indie games that are f2p, and the fact that they are f2p does not make them worse really.
Re: General discussion chat yeah, but let's be honest, how often is the average user going to need to do something like that? pretty much never (and if it's something like someone not liking the windows 8 start screen, then 3rd party programs can solve things like that)
Re: General discussion chat Its £110 to get home and student outright or £60 per year for 365, this is based on the single use versions (mine is actually the full 5 use subscription at £80 for the year)
Re: General discussion chat Sure average user won't but a smalltime programmer will, he adds something, fixes something, and then redistributed it again with credits, so the average user will be able to use the work of a random person thanks to the program being opensource or freeware. He might not redistribute if the maker does not want to, but he can give the maker something fixed or so, that was just a example. Not everybody will be needed to program, just a portion of the mass.
Re: General discussion chat While i would have to agree that linux is amazing. Windows just works. If i want to install some software there is a wizard that will do that for me. No faffing around with command lines using sudo apt get etc. Just download and run and you are off. I guess i like windows because i am lazy and like the compatibility. But i would totally love to have a laptop that runs linux, since all it would really need to do is word processing etc, that would work so well.
Re: General discussion chat If you do any professional work then Linux is useless. Photoshop, Illustrator, 3ds Max, CAD, etc aren't available for Linux. Nor is Visual Studio. Sure, you can use emulators, but it still has compatibility issues. And I don't want any command line bullshit on everyday use. I could deal with it just fine, but it's just slow and impractical when you can just make things easy. Needless to say the average user has absolutely no idea what to do if they don't have a big "install" button right in front of their face. And I didn't pay for windows, my school gives me 5 licences. (Actually 15 for Win8, since I have 5 for 8, 5 for 8.1 and 5 for 8.1 updated, lel). Same with Visual Studio. Still I'd probably pay for a good OS that can actually do what I need because I'm not cheeaaap actually i am kinda sometimes - - - Updated - - - We've been discussing that like 15 pages back. It seems all they'll do for now is MC for windows phone.
Re: General discussion chat You can't honestly say you're okay with destroying an E46. It's a crime to destroy an M series, punishable by death. Yep, I totally didn't make that up just now.
Re: General discussion chat sure we can be okay with it, provided someone ruined it, which that picture does indeed show a ruined e46
Re: General discussion chat lol, inb4 "Hi there, it looks like your trying to make a minecraft animation"
Re: General discussion chat It's not ruined, you change the grille, headlights, wheels and remove the ugly lip and it's good as new. You might want to remove the window tint as well, it's too dark. - - - Updated - - - Praise our lord and saviour Clippy my steam name is Clippy lel
Re: General discussion chat You call that slammed? Damnn you kids these days and your "slammed" cars. Slammed means "frame rails scraping the ground, rip off your oilpan on a road reflector" low. Also, stop calling every modded car "ruined". Not only does it make you sound like a pretensious asshole, it's just wrong. That BMW for example had somewhat subtle and tasteful mods compared to something like this for example: "That guy plastidipped that one little bit you can barely see in the car, it's ruined! Kill him!" Now that's just wrong.
Re: General discussion chat You can do plenty of professional work on linux, hell, face it, windows sucks for servers for a start and theres a damn huge market segment. Besides. GIMP, Inkskape, blender, Eclipse or even manning up and using makefiles (which are far more flexible anyway, although Visual Studio is happy to use them). Also WINE is not an emulator, hell, what did you thing it stood for? Linux doesnt try to make anything hard. Go use Ubuntu or Mint, they have a nice graphical software repository where you can just click to download shit. You don't have to use the shell on an every day use, however I'll think you'll find rather than a shell being slow and impractical its actually a case of the windows one just sucking balls compared to a unix like shell. I use windows as my daily driver yes. But Linux is still fucking amazing. - - - Updated - - - Oh I highly recommend installing linux onto family computers that you are going to be forced to look after. For people just web browsing and using office, it can be setup by you to be nice and easy for them to use. Set it up to auto-login, never give them the root password. They will struggle to break anything, and when they do break something, SSH to the rescue. The joys of fixing family computers without even having to leave your chair, hell, thanks to the powers of SSH you can update/reconfigure/install software remotely without having to kick them off the machine, you're kid brother can be laughing at youtube videos while you're installing stuff in the background and he wont even notice.
Re: General discussion chat That E46 wasn't slammed, I'm just saying if you slam a BMW you should be painfully murdered. Windows sucks for servers, yup. But I don't have a server. If I did, I'd probably run Linux. As for GIMP, Blender etc. they're good but I just find the user experience shit compared to Photoshop/3ds Max. I should try Mint, it seems good. Ubuntu is just crap. I myself have no problem with using a shell for installs, I'm talking for the average guy there. Anyway, I like Windows. Deal with it, let's not start any flamewars here please.
Re: General discussion chat I think I found Gabester in War Thunder today. I'm not sure if it's him because I don't know if Gabester is a common name/nickname. (imported from here) (Sorry for huge image) In-game image.
