I've gotten this to a stage where I feel it's progressed enough to be posted publicly. No need for an elaborate explanation. Tri count is around 120k right now(nearly 45k of that is the wheels alone which I made as low poly as I could without loosing too much definition). 2% credit to Gabe() for plenty of tips. Wireframes: Also, a basic cover I made for the bed. Still needs some tuning to get it to fit nice and tight. Credits: Gabe, support. Dennis-W, mesh tips. Miura, support.
Yeah looks good Maybe some people will have performance problems with 120k polygons, but it's ok for me.
that's so many poly's :O looks really detailed though. my pc won't work with it at more than like 5fps lol
Wow, that's a lot of polys Looks very nice & detailed though. I like the choice of truck, looks ugly enough so you can destroy it without feeling sad
Nicely modeled. With the covered version, is there any way you'd be able to make the tarp a "loose" skeleton so it can flap around and hang?
Nice work, I like this czech piece of metal! It can go everywhere and this truck is used in czech army until today, because nothing can replace this machine (they are replaced by Tatra 810 based on Renault Premium just to keep army trucks modern) Good luck, really nice model and you made my day!
Yes. I plan on trying to make the whole tarp 'detachable' so it can fly off(Gabes suggestion) whenever BNG is released(along with the rest of it, duh). If that doesn't work out(not sure how well it'll work with self collision and getting stuck like in RoR) I'll add some loose nodes or something to make it flap.
Looks amazing! And I know we don't need to concede to the lowest common denominator, but 120k is a lot. I believe that some people will try beamng and not be able to at with some cars and call it suckky. I enjoy high poly-ness but maybe at the end save 2 copies and run one through a de-polyfier a few times, and ta-da! You get a fps version! But it really looks amazing, glad to see people working on beamng mods already.
I really doubt 120k polies will cause issues... We live in the year 2013, pc's and games can handle a LOT of poly's compared to when I was modding gta sa and 4x4 evo 2.
That kind of tool really messes up the poly flow of any mesh so it would screw up deformation as well as the need to re-uvmap everything again. Plus, most of the stuff isn't all that high poly anyway. Take a look at the hood for example. I'm thinking of adding another loop or two of edges along the curve to make it 'flow' better.
I think every poly is worth it with this one. Just the fact that you had the patience to endow this beautiful level of detail upon this truck amazes me. By now it probably doesn't need saying, but great job!
