I absolutely despise planes lmao, I live under a flight path so that probably explains why

Because they're ugly, loud and polluting. At least they're better than cruise ships

supersonic ones came 50 years ago, and subsequently went again because no one wants to pay 10x more for a ticket, and people on the ground don't like hearing multiple sonic booms per day.

I know what concorde is, ive seen and been on it myself, the boom supersonic aircraft use a design that eliminates sonic booms and is smaller, that could help the cost and sonic booms

I doubt that'll happen. Supersonic commercial planes are a bad idea and like CaptinZoll said, the Concorde is an example of why it will never happen again, not just for the sonic booms. It's a prime example of expert engineering and design don't get me wrong, however I'm glad it'll be the last plane to go supersonic to be honest.

Besides, most aerospace companies are focusing on making their planes more efficient and cleaner, not faster

You do have a point, idk, lets just see what happens with the supersonic plane,
Werent tesla working on an electric plane iirc?

Probably, but like the Tesla highway truck I don't think that'll work either

I think supersonic planes would be amazing, but only to cross the oceans. Maybe have a speed limit on them over land or something so they don't disturb people?

Planes nowadays are really boring, they all look like the same. Older aircraft like Tu-154 looks way better.

Doesn't work, supersonic planes are very inefficient at subsonic speeds.

The problem with that plane is that older russian aircraft are really unsafe, take the antonov an12b that was developed in the soviet union, that has had incidents countless times, as seen here, modern Russian aircraft have much better reputation’s, but tbf they are all copies of boeing and airbus planes.

This thought is what killed the Concorde in the first place, it was too regulated. We need to just let airlines use the things and they'll improve over time, just like any other product.
Electric planes... look, I'm just gonna say it, aren't at all reasonable with current battery technology - you'd take so much of the payload capacity just in batteries, it's stupid.
It was a government project, of course it sucked - private industry always has and always will do a better, more efficient job when given the chance. If no one's taking on the task yet without government intervention, that's because it's a bad idea given current technology. This was true when the Concorde was made. While technologically amazing, it wasn't AT ALL feasible to run long term. The fact that we see private industry taking it on today says that yes, some people do see a market in which they can sell this product. Let it work itself out, and it'll work. :)

Are we seriously arguing against planes? Really? They are imperative for not only civilian travel, but in shipping industries, military, and technological exploration.

Seriously, how would you get from, say, Nova Scotia in Canada to Norway? So you want to take a plane and be there in 18 hours, or float around in the North Atlantic for several days on a boat like a pilgrim.

There are bigger problems in the world outside of planes. Come on people.

I don't see anyone here saying we should get rid of planes, just that supersonic planes are impractical.

while we're com-plane-ing (heh), can we stop putting tetraethyl-lead in avgas, please?

I mean I'd like to see as many planes out of the skies as possible to be honest
