Well don't eat in the car if you are worried about that. Or just clean it with a vacuum cleaner. Im not sure about in the US but as i said in the uk it is not uncommon (i would actually say fairly common) to see families that use BMW, Mercedes and Audi as their family car. Of course this will depend on what section of the country you are in.
I'm from the UK too. Yes, it's common, but I wouldn't have a nice car if I had kids. Just my opinion.
It's surprising what people will do in their cars. You always see people with bowls of cereal and shit on the way to school. It's just a mess waiting to happen.
For the Renault Clio Mio in past pages of the topic, it's the cheapest car build by Renault for the south america, and indeed it is very ugly, the interior is from the clio 2.1(1998) without any equipment... Little history of the car : Clio Mio 2013 ^ Clio 2 1998 v But in 2001 the Clio 2.2 appears to be better looking, with very good equipment for a small car, and good build quality and fiability. In 2004 the Clio 3 is coming, and the 2.3 (same as 2.2 with some minors changes) is replaced by Clio Campus, with a lower price, and less equipments/engines... Same interior as before... without good equipments. In 2012, the lastest Clio Campus bye bye are builded because the Clio 4 is coming. Just the front changed, and even less choice. Voila for the Clio 2. I liked it when it was 2.2 and 2.3. Others are passable (2.1, bye bye), others like mio and campus 1 baaaah.
