I paid for your awesome mod, because I want to support all your hard work. I understand that you're feeling terrible about all this shitty situation but, this means that the mod is already unsupported?

 

Maybe I'm wrong but honestly this is my thought here:

Lucas knew the community exists around leaking mods so did he honestly expect it to not happen?
Simply publicly stating its all paid and you can't get it without paying invites the challenge to leak it.

I don't understand the annoying thing about it, happens in every community, all the time. Even to me via other games/platforms but I earnt my money at the start for those who wanted to support me so no point throwing toys out the pram because you knew it would happen lol...

Either way, Lucas isn't the last living mod maker for beam and plenty more people will make quality mods. If Lucas doesn't wish to make more, its certainly not the beam community that loses out. There's lots to fill that space.

Basically - Lucas, don't throw it all in the faces of people who like your mods because what you knew would happen, happened.
Stop making or sharing mods, fine, it's your hobby to give up, not ours.

Guys just leave him alone.
He has his own mind and he can think by himself and bumping this thread with bs like: "pls come back!!!" is not helping him in any way.
We all know how good is he and how much effort he puts in his work and we all hope that he doesn't quit but we need to let him alone.
Btw all the support you guys are showing is amazing (enough for a man to made him cry).

Maybe I don't agree with paid mods, or more correctly, the simple fact that I can't afford it due to the economic situation in my country makes me feel very bad. But getting to this point is very terrible... I thought they were going to make a single leak and the matter was over, but this is terribly illegal and malicious

This is illegal in Russia, but in reality nobody cares, because many people here living on about 200$ per month and we just don't have money to actually buy stuff. FTGJ i must say that today many people in Russia has Steam and they buying games, some of my friends has Spotify and Netflix.

And yes, i'm sad that this mod is stolen. And also i hope someday that stigma of "russian meshslap mods thieves" will end, because sometimes i can't stop taking personally messages about them, despite the fact that i know that's not about russians itself, but it still sad for me.

 

Wasn't planning to comment here, but I just wanted to share my own unbiased opinion, which I hope will not come across as inconsiderate.

Lucas and others, here are my thoughts..

1. Paid mods is something pretty new for this community, and while it has been done before, usually that is on a smaller scale. Of course, it is to be expected that people expect it for free as that is how things have worked around here for most part of 10 years. That being said, I support your polarizing decision to stand for your work and ask for a small compensation for your monumental effort as it is within your rights. (I also suspect that some backlash come from people who are afraid that paid mods might become the new normal going forward and they want to prevent this from happening. Regardless, I hope you can see that the majority of the support is on your side.)

2. While I understand how it must feel for your work be undermined by people who have leaked, honestly saying, expected that from the first second I saw word 'PAID' in the headline. Piracy has always been and likely will be of the digital media industry - television, music, porn, software - these industries are worth billions and still have not managed to deal with piracy as it is just an impossible uphill battle. Every good solution comes with heavy disadvantages to consumers and creators. It is especially if the product is not supposed to be online only, requiring constant connection to servers, which BeamNG or your mod is not. I'm not trying to protect it or to say that you should not try your best to fight it, I think you should have known from the beginning that it will happen sooner or later regardless of how protect it, if your goal was to give public access, instead of extremely limited group of close friends and creators.

3. I think 3.80 is a fair price for the mod if you want to sell it to mainstream player base, and not only to very limited number of hardcore enthusiasts and content creators, keeping in mind that this price is somewhere between 15-40% of the price of the full game, taking in mind Steam prices for different currencies and discounts. In fact, the total sales of almost 300 units up to this point is higher than I expected, considering my last argument and I want to congratulate you for that.

4. Realistically, easy to use game with low hardware requirements and the appeal of 'cool car crashes' is going to attract a large player base of children, teenagers, and everything in between, which is exactly the group with no income, no regard for the effort you have put in, and time to put in to look for ways to find the mod for free or to make you feel bad for standing for your interests. Therefore, you should try your best to ignore them, not let them discourage you and realise that pretty much everyone with IQ above room temperature is on your side, reward your effort and support your decisions.

Overall, I hope you will not be discouraged from modding in the future and I want to thank you for the effort you have put in. Good luck with your future endeavours!

(I have not yet bought the mod as I currently don't have much time for gaming but I'm planning to do so once I have more free time)

 

I genuinely feel bad for you mate. this whole ordeal is the internet at its absolute worst. I don't blame you at all for wanting to quit. but I would still seek legal advice over modland and whoever leaked the mod. I'm no legal expert, but it is crime that has been committed.

But remember, you did an outstanding job at this mod. Just because some morons decided to pirate your work, doesn't take away your achievement or what is in my opinion the most detailed and well-made mods on the forum.

tbh i don't see anything bad with paid mods: the only downside is that some people can't afford these mods.

i agree on this but the real problem is that Beamng community can't accept paying for a mod and i don't know why: this car is so well made that can be normally seen as a DLC.
The problem is that people buy 10 euros battle pass without hesitation but a 4 euros car?... nah.
All beamng modders always treated us too well giving us free and fantastic mods and some of us didn't deserve it (and what happened today is the proof).

 

So sad to see that so much love, hard work, determination and more just got leaked by some fricking... ahhh. The worst part is that i cant do anything other than just say that its horrible what has happened. Don't forget Lucas that most of the people here stand with you.

 

I was only going to comment on this when things got cold, but Wow!... It's mind-boggling how many kids and teens just don't understand that other people aren't obligated to provide them with everything absolutely free!
