Sometimes I wonder when Beamng might fail because every game ends up being popular. I do not know a car game that can match Beamng in terms of physics, but it will definitely be created. The question is this. By which year do you think Beamng drive will be so popular in car games? My answer is as long as possible.

assetto corsa's been out since 2014, beam since 2013, gtav too, csgo came out in 04. look at how active the playerbase is in beam. stick to reality mate

Is that even a question? The game has great devs putting out content on the regular and an amazing, thriving community. It does vehicle physics like nobody else. It's firmly in a market of it's own. There is nothing out there that can even remotely compare, let alone compete or replace it.

I think the developers will continue for probably another 5 years or so. At that point the game will just be too old and dated and they’ll either stop entirely or make a new game (like rigs of rods to BeamNG). The games player base however will easily last over a decade from now.

yeah, switching to a different or even a custom built game engine would be cool, with better lighting and stuff would be cool, though it would deifinitely be a lot more work, but right now, the beam engine (made originally from torque3d) is pretty good for most tasks, albeit the lighting looks ass. Bht, after the new PBR implementation on most of the cars, and a few maps, makes it look a whole lot better.

the playerbase of the game just keeps getting bigger and bigger every day, since, there really isnt any oyher game that takes real physics this seriously.. Force feedback for eg, regular racing games/sims like AC take the forces directly affecting the tire and hence you get very realistic feel, but in beam? The forces go from Tire contact patch > suspension arms and tie rods > steering rack > then to your wheel, also depends if you have power steering on.
so yes, a lot of things can be implemented and be imporved upon

NO IMO Beamng wont die for a long time. as cars become more driverless IRL ( ugh ) i think us car fans will keep it alive. or make a new game how ROR dev team made Beamng :)

I don't know.. I think 5 years is too little, maybe we'll get campaign mode in 5 years if we're lucky lol.

Beamng is already pretty popular among people who want to crash and enjoy physics. Every youtube video with "games with good physics/car games with realistic crash graphics/ car games with real crash physics/etc" mention beamng in some or the other way. It has a pretty stable and growing community. No other game does crash physics the way beamng does. Cars in most games are licensed and cannot be crashed as amazingly as in beamng.

Don't see that day coming unless some game decides to implement better graphics with a stronger modding fanbase

As others have said, I think beamng will continue to be popular until another game with an equal or better physics engine comes out.
that may be beamNNG, or it may be something else.
heck, even that probably won't kill it; you can still see RoR has a decently active community, despite being effectively deprecated nearly 10 years ago.

Especially considering Rigs of Rods still has a fairly active player base really. Nowhere even close to the BeamNG player base but it's there.
