Best reliable wheel for drifting?

Hello, i'm planning on buying a wheel, but i'm not sure which one i should buy.

Well, from my knowledge they are very unreliable, someone said they break after a month or so.

is it good for drifting? Or is 900 degrees too much?

 

If the T300 really is that unreliable, I don't think it is though, your best option for a budget wheel is going to be the G29/920. I have had mine for over 2 years and it still works perfectly, the FFB is a bit too slow for drifting with 900-degree rotation though. A direct drive wheel would be much better and more reliable but would also be considerably more expensive, at least until the CSL DD comes out.

 

fanatec csl elite and the new fanatec csl dd are quite good

 

as long as it isnt $50 it should be fine

 

my hama was like 9000 din(90 dollars i think)it has 90 degrees rotation,no clutch,and not sensitive pedals,

 

you can always lower the rotation, and for a good quality wheel you want around 900 degrees. you probably want to do something else other than drift with it eventually, i say a g29 is a decent option, especially if you can get a bundle with the h-shifter thrown in, the price goes around 200-250€

I myself bought a used Logitech G25 steering wheel with the pedals and shifter included in box for about 150-170 usd (can't remember the exact ammount) four years ago, use it for drifting in assetto corsa and beamng all the time and love it!

 

FFB on the G29 was way too slow for drifting. I guess you could spend way more time than it's worth it to dial it in exactly, but you'd no doubt be compromising its effectiveness for other driving styles. The only way I could effectively counter steer with that wheel was if I turned FFB strength to 0 and threw the wheel in the opposite direction. FFB at any other value, including 100%, span the wheel way too slowly so spinning out was all but guaranteed.

I also found the gear drive to be very noisy and you could feel the notchiness, not to mention the juddering. It just felt like it was going to break constantly, very off-putting.

And don't get me started on Logitech G-Suite. Older versions of their driver software allows fine control over things like centering spring strength, but newer versions completely dumb it down to basic settings for infants. The software always seemed to lock up whenever it tried to update too, so I would usually completely reinstall it to get the latest version.

Basically, the G29/920 is the wheel everyone gets because it's 1) available, 2) cheap, 3) has decent features, 4) everyone has it. But for me, the inclusion of a clutch pedal as standard and a relatively cheap shifter add-on doesn't make up for the less than ideal wheel drive and awful software. It's actually a pretty good wheel for most other driving. I really enjoyed using it for racing and slow driving. If you want to do drifting, get a belt-drive or a direct-drive wheel. I just wish Logitech would pull their fingers out and expand their line up to include belt-driven options.

 

If it was belt-driven, the price would be something else.
It might not be perfect, but for the price it's very good and I had no problem drifting with it. I do have a G27, but I am pretty certain it's more or less the same with a different look.

 

That's not true, I use mine for half a year now and I never had any issues with it. I bought it used too. Just use it on forced fan mode and don't use 100% FFB (you don't need to).

 

Nearly every video I've seen of someone drifting with a Logitech wheel has done so with the older G27. Something about that wheel is different, maybe the gear ratios?

I can't see why it being a belt drive would inflate the cost the way it does over a gear drive, but it's probably the case for Thrustmaster because they also sell a gear-driven wheel and they want to position their belt-drive wheels relative to the rest of their line-up, rather than the competition. The rising demand of wheels during lockdown hasn't helped matters.
