Hi guys, in a few years (like 1-2 years) i'd like to learn how to make mods and which applications do i have to install Could u help me, please? Ma questions are these: Which applications do i have to install? Are all of them free or do i have to pay something? Which applications are required to model, to blend and for PBR Materials? In which sites can i take some 3d models? (Safe applications) Thank you all for disposability
at a minimum you will need the following a 3D modeling software, capable of exporting to DAE format, to create/edit the 3D model an image editing software, for editing/creating textures a text editing software for editing/creating jbeam, materials, configs ect... There is a plethora of 3D modeling software available, as well as image editing software, some are free and others not I would recommend using Blender and Paint.net (or GIMP), blender is a free 3D modeling software that is fairly easy to use, same goes for paint.net (i find gimp a little more complex and less user friendly, but it might be the more powerful 2d image software) for text editing i find notepad++ works great, and it is also free i would recommend downloading and playing about with these software, and check out some tutorials on youtube. once you feel comfortable with the interface and nothing is super confusing anymore than you can try to do some mods
1. You have to get : Blender : it's a 3D modeling tool available here or on Steam (both options are free). It can be used to model, attribute materials, make materials, etc. Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code : they are both free advanced text editors. They're used to code/script. You'll need one of those (whichever one you want, it's purely based on personal preference) to get the parts/cars in-game. Any image editing software : Gimp, Paint.net, or Adobe Photoshop are the most common. Gimp and Paint.net are free, Adobe Photoshop is paid. These are used to edit textures, make changes to certain images,... (Optional) Substance 3D Painter : it's a paid texturing tool that is mostly used by professionals to create PBR-standard textures, you can find it here. A good free alternative is Quixel Mixer. 2. To model you'll need Blender, "blending" doesn't exist, and PBR materials can be created with professional tools or image editing softwares. 3. I heavily advise against getting 3D models on websites. Most of the time they won't fit BeamNG's physics-based environment. One thing you should learn is how to make your own models. It can take a lot of time and effort, and a lot of research. You should also invest some of your time doing research on the Wiki and the new Documentation system. They're extremely helpful, especially to new modders. There are also a lot of tutorials online on how to 3D model. Remember that everything you need to get into BeamNG modding is entirely free.
I, personally, would recommend Automation for making your first mods. It's faster and easier than Blender, and the experience you gain can help you make better mods in the future, but it does have it's limits. I'm using it now, until I can be bothered to learn how to use Blender. On the downside, Automation is £23, whereas Blender is free.
Well, you can make your own and export it, then upload that to BeamNG. Pretty much everything on the repository is a mod.
Franz027, you probably know this, but if you're making a Blender mod, you need patience, it takes time and commitment to model a car.
Sorry, i can't make 3d models. I'm not skilled =( I will try to learn... --- Post updated --- Thanks Thomas =) I will learn and see all tips here. Thank you all guys!
that is exactly what I was expecting you can't be skilled at everything, you need to learn a skill to acquire it.
You're welcome! Last thing, I recommend following YouTube tutorials for Blender, there are some pretty good ones out there!
