It would be nice to have as a option to turn scratches on or off. As an example, I rolled a 200bx and it went like 20 meters on it's roof, but there wasn't a single scratch on the roof. And when I was drifting I got a nice walltap, but there wasn't a single scratch either. If it eats too much fps, u can just turn them off. It would make the game more alive.

That would be nice to get when u get a walltap.

    behold, the search function.
@crashmaster was working on this very idea. I don't know if he still is.

Well, it suggested 1 million times but idk why devs don't make it. Now if you do drift on the asphalt, the tire marks will be appear on the ground. The scratches are really similar! Something like those tire marks on the ground, but for the car's body. It's not hard to implement, the only thing they should do is making bodies like the asphalt, so tire marks can be appeared on them. Next edit the lua file(s), so the those textures will not be appear only when tire goes on them, they'll be appeared when a hard thing collides with the body. When I said a HARD thing, I meant something that its beam deform is high and it's not easy to make it deformed. For example, tires can be deformed very easy, so the tires shouldn't be able to scratch the body. Next convert tire mark texture to scratch texture. Finish. (I know there are other works to do too but these are important works)

Like @Phym said, you could take a look at that thread (ignore me being incredibly stupid, I was very cringey and dumb last year when I joined.)
It's not really an actual progress thread from ME, because someone else was posting progress on it and it's in the wrong section for progress anyway, , but I think it would be useful to check it out.

I don't think it's that simple, generally these marks are "painted" when the wheels are touching the grounds and skidding, so they don't really have any relation with the road, and they don't move. I don't know if beamng's skidmarks work like that though.

from what ive read over the past few months about what beamng will be doing in the next few months/years probably.
seeing how they are PAID to make QUALITY CONTENT. i will just say it right here right now. ive given up on my scratch project.
extremely time consuming for some bs that looks like crap and that will be obsolete in a few years when devs adds a layer based scratch system over the pbr.
plus im not getting paid to do this. with the amount of stuff going in my life right now. scratches are not my problem.

all you guys can really do now is sit and wait for news about the real stuff from the devs.

Yeah, considering someday I'd assume it will come, but for now, it's just not here yet.
I understand why you abandoned the project, and hope it comes to the game soon
