Yes, The construction company that built all the houses in my neighborhood built here from the 40's to the 70's, they are nice and well built houses. However in the next neighborhood the houses were much cheaper, smaller and built on less desirable property by a different construction company. In fact the builders of our neighborhood sold that land to them because they new it was crap. In those neighborhoods its not just 1 or 2 familys moving out, its dozens, especially since 2008 when the economy went to crap, but the trend has continued. It's even worse in the inner city were abandoned homes are being turned into meth labs and drug dealing areas. They are also being caught on fire by arsonists at an alarming rate, several per month, adding up to hundreds every year! It costs the city money and potentially lives to have to put all these arson fires out, so the city tears down as many of these abandoned houses as there budget lets them.

In oak ridge, a town a little ways down the road from where I live, they just completely leveled a whole neighborhood to build a super Walmart or something.
Actually went though there when they started the demolition. Like a war zone or something. It's kinda funny what they did though. When we went though, it's like they just took an excavator to each house and put a hole in the wall, or tore part of the roof off. All of the houses were still standing, but had holes in them. I wanted to throw some rocks through some windows for the shits and giggles, because they were gonna be broken during the demolition anyway, but my dad wouldn't let me. :|
The whole area around where I live was farmland 30 years ago. Most of the houses built in my neighborhood date back to early 90s. Even within the last 5 years I've seen farms turn into neighborhoods. The roads out here are getting a little too small to handle all the traffic, too. Even the interstate ramps on this street are in need of a complete overhaul. That particular interstate itself was finished only 20 years ago. There's been a massive population boom.

I know exactly what you mean. In the late 70's my town was just a small country town, 20 years later its hard to imagine there was ever a single field anywhere within 10 miles of the city center. And today its even worse. Roads can't even handle the traffic, the buildings in the center of town built in the 1800's are too close together to expand the road in certain parts. Thankfully people years ago predicted this would eventually happen and set up a lot of historical preservation laws which kept most of the huge amount of buildings built before the 1890's standing. So now are town has a fantastic verity and quantity of amazing old buildings, some of which are museums you can visit for free, even though these buildings are now standing on prime real estate for big Walmarts and other businesses. Unfortunately in the mid 80's a lot of amazing very old buildings (including one heck of an amazing historical mansion once owned my ancestors) were destroyed to make room for an interstate. Because of these historical preservation laws the town still retains a tiny amount of that "small town" vibe, but really its way to big for its britches. Thankfully real country towns, farm fields and untouched wooded areas can be driven to from my house in just 10 minutes or so, and if I drive for an hour I can get to very low populated areas, with almost no traffic and great visibility. Race anyone? ;)

    It's the same with here.
I love Tennessee because it's so diverse. On the east we have mountains, on the west we have fertile lowlands. There are also cities, and after a 30 minute drive you
are in the middle of podunk nowhere.

    Yeah I know lol.
That reminds me. A few weeks ago I took the jetski up the lake to try and find that marina or park or whatever the fuck that big ass cove is near Rockwood. Then I started getting low on gas so I had to head back.

So what should I do with my old A8-3850 and MSI A75A-G35? I could make another computer out of it as I probably have all the parts. (Case, monitor, not sure about PSU though.) But the only thing holding me from making another computer out of it is what would I do with it? Plus I don't think we have any spare SATA HDDs.

Buy more HDDs, put it in a tiny case, hook it up via Ethernet to your router, create cheap home backup system.

Whack a cheapo hard disk in there with a reasonable capacity, I'd set it up with linux running both Samba and FTP access (both included as standard in most linux distros, FTP is usually setup fully already but samba usually requires configuration first).
FTP mostly because I personally use FTP quite a bit, its easy to use with an FTP client both locally and over the internet (on port forwarded servers of course) with clients on all platforms and is usually configured by default anyway.
Samba is an open source implementation of the SMB protocol which windows uses for all its network devices (file systems, drives (can network map optical & floppy drives) and printers) so if you hook up an optical drive or 2 and a printer, bam you have a file server with printing and optical drives for devices in the home without them.

Samba doesnt seem to work so well online but is almost a must have on a LAN with alot of windows machines on it. Configured correctly it is possible to share the same filesystem by both FTP and Samba which then provides off site access too. They complement one another quite nicely.

    Failing that. Family computer.

Well before I can do any of that there are two problems: No DDR3 RAM and no PSU with a 24 pin connector.

Buy them then :p Won't need to be a high end PSU, go with a 32 bit version of linux and 2gb should be plenty for fileserving.

Why I don't go around throwing money at new computer parts which will inevitably be obsolete in 2 years.

What's that supposed to mean. The A8 and MSI board were a gift.. (Honestly, it was obsolete when I got it but still far better than the P4 I had at the time.)
