how are some supposed to have I4s but some have flat-4s how does the drivetrain packaging work?
does it have an enormous transmission tunnel, like a rover 75?

The I4s are transversely mounted and the transmission tunnel is mostly covered by the center console in the front. The boxers are longitudally mounted.

1975 - 1979 Algar Mercury (Based off the 1976 AMC Pacer)

    "Roomier than most"

Algar, a American car manufacture that specializes in dirt cheap family cars, decided to throw their hat into the compact car ring during the oil crisis with the Mercury. Advertised as a compact with as much interior space as a sedan, thanks to it's very wide body, the Mercury is a car that sold well for a few years, but was quickly disregarded when people realized that it's just as thirsty as a sedan.

    Variants:

The Monstrous: A rotten Mercury with a rusty paint job, mismatched wheels, tacky fender flames, and a 4.2L I6 that's halfway to the morgue.

Base: Equipped with a 89hp 3.8L I6 coupled to either a 3 speed automatic or 4 speed manual transmission.

S: The Mercury S comes equipped with a 112hp 4.2L I6 coupled to either a 3 speed automatic or a 4 speed manual transmission. Other features include a front sway bar, a sport steering wheel, vinyl bucket seats, and custom trim.

Luxe: Powered by either a 112hp 4.2L I6 or a 140hp 5.0L V8 coupled to a 4 speed automatic or manual transmission. Other features include a two tone paint job, leather seats, a leather wrapped steering wheel, Alder Magnum wheels, and a roof rack.

Street Tuned: With a 445hp 5.0L V8 taken from a 1960s muscle car connected to a 5 speed racing manual transmission, a racing LSD, racing suspension, racing 4 wheel disc brakes, Alder Powr-Push wheels, racing tires, racing bucket seats, and a roll cage, this modified Mercury is ready to tear some asphalt right out of the ground.

Exterior and Interior: (Based off the automatic base model)

why would a car maker go through the trouble of having 2 completely diffrent engine types and layouts ?

thats like if the 350z had a 2.2 fwd option for the base model

    1966 - 1975 Montgomery Scabbard (Based off the 1969 Rover P5 and the 1970 Jaguar XJ6)

    "Luxury for everyone"

The Montgomery Scabbard is a low-end luxury car that focuses on reliability, build quality, and being affordable. While it may not have things like hydraulic suspension, pillowly seats, and as much interior space as a limousine, the Scabbard does offer a comfortable ride, decent performance, and a price tag that won't leave you flat broke.

    Variants:

The Smasher: With it's durable body and heavy duty chassis, the Scabbard has been a popular choice for banger racing since they started showing up in junkyards, and this Scabbard V8 is no exception. The Smasher comes with a banger racing roll cage, a stripped interior, removed lights and windows, welded doors, a bolted hood, a derby radiator, derby bumpers, exhaust stacks, and a Union Jack derby livery.

I6: The base model, equipped with a 115hp 3.0L I6 coupled to a 3 speed automatic or 4 speed manual transmission.

I6 Luxe: Equipped with the same engine and transmission options, but now comes with fog lights, decorative chrome trim, wood interior trim, leather seats, and a optional two-tone paint job.

V8: Very similar to the I6 Luxe model, but it comes with a 161hp 3.5L V8, twin chrome exhaust pipes, Alder Magnum wheels, heavy duty suspension, and a two tone interior.

Rally: This modified Scabbard V8 has been turned into a custom rally car, equipped with offroad tires, rally suspension, a skid plate, roof mounted light pods, a stripped interior, racing bucket seats, a Nomi racing wheel, quick ratio steering, a roll cage, and a rally livery.

Custom: With a 3.5L V8 that's been bored up to 4.0L and had it's power increased to 275, this grandpa car is ready to shred it's rear tires all day long. Other modifications include side pipes, Clockwise 533 wheels, removed bumpers, racing bucket seats, quick ratio steering, sport suspension, a sport LSD, racing 4 wheel disc brakes, and a hood scoop.

Exterior and Interior: (Based on the automatic V8 model)

So... Basically, just rename a bunch of cars? Not a very creative suggestion imo.

Mazda made a car called Savanna in the 1970s, but there's a car in GTA SA called the Savanna. I don't remember Rockstar having to deal with legal issues when that happened.

Most likely because it was a 30 year old car and Mazda didn’t care because it was a long forgotten car from forever ago

So why would EA care if a soft-body physics driving game had a car with the same manufacturer name as some cars from a game they made back in 2008?
