Click here if want to fill in the form so that we can get more info on this subject, it takes around 5 minutes to complete Hello! I wanted to know what you guys think of Patreon and paid content in general when it comes to BeamNG. We've had some attempts at paid content before and it created a bit of drama here on the forums. I'd like to know if your opinion changed since then, as paid mods are almost always fine when it comes to other games (e.g. Assetto Corsa) What's your take on paid content for BeamNG? What would you like to see in the future? Are paid mods viable to you? Share your thoughts!
If you can find a way to get paid, I say good on you man. its not greedy at all. if you use much of your free time to make quality content/mods you should get paid for your time, that is my thoughts on the matter anyway. Sadly some people dont grasp, the insane amount of time that goes into making a complete mod for BeamNG Drive, The modeling, texturing and making the J-beam structur that is not horrible, It can take months even up to a year, of fine tuning to get it to deform and fall apart just right.
All the content that the devs make is technically paid content. Why should it be any different for mod devs? No one is required to pay for a mod. To be honest what I would probably do is pay someone to make me a mod then turn it over to me so that I can post it on the repo/forums for everybody else to use, free of charge. I would also likely promote the creator.
I think your an amazing person! You should definitely get paid to do this tuff, because not a lot of people have as much talent as you, and I just want to say, huge fan of your work!! Huge simp, and fan
ah shit, thanks for the insight i'll drive to McDonalds now and get a double quarter pounder combo meal, and i'll tell them at the first window how I shouldn't have to pay because wanting compensation for goods and services is actually greedy thanks for the free food i'll try this with my local McLaren dealer next BeamNG forum members truly have the highest average IQ of any social group
To be honest: I don't care that much. You deserve to be paid for the free work you've done in the past, so it's fine for me. 'dis some r/ChoosingBeggars right here
Well that drama should be out of the way ever since, it has been officially moderated more than once that commissions are fully acceptable as long as you take care of your own legal matters on the exchange of fund. About your idea, I fully support it. It would be 100% fitting to 'crowd source' a project for instance. If enough members are up for a certain mod and the objective is reached, then the wider community can still enjoy the mod in question for free and the artist didn't had to spend all his time and hard work into it for nothing
this is a touchy subject remember when steam tried to make skyrim mods payed? that was a bit on a whole other level but id like to give my 2 cents on the subject in my eyes, mods are something people decide to make in their own free time, for free. if you want to make 3d models and get payed for it. get a job in that domain, asking money for a 3rd party video game MOD is just a big no for me. but times has changed, and what we could mod in about an hour, we now have to spend 3 weeks making sure the physics goes well with what we modeled. modding for beamng is a huge pain and takes an immense amount of time. and i also understand why people wants to get payed. but for the mod itself to be payed content is an absolute no for me. if people wants to support you and they have a choice to donate to you to help produce stuff, yeah sure go ahead. (people we hate me for this but) Now if i see a brand new mod released but the only option for me to access it is thu a 5$ patreon. you can be sure ill be looking anywhere else to get that mod, and ill never give a single penny for a paid mod. ether it be for beamng, or skyrim, or any other game out there that sells single piece of content for an absurd amount. want to support = donate. want to get payed ≠ payed mods get a job in that domain instead if you wanna get payed a decent amount. DLC on the other hand... we would be sure the content we are paying for is dev worthy, and has the best quality available for this game. payed mods? who knows what kind of content people are gonna try to sell. im sure some shady russians could try selling a covet meshslap that has the looks of an MR2 for profit. we spend hundreds of hours working on content for a game for free. thats been modding in a nutshell for as far as i can remember. a few individuals tried to make bank out of it, but unless its a huge mod like killing floor and it can end up being its own identity, i dont see why i should be paying money i barely have for a singular vehicle in this game. if id get payed, id be spending way more time modding and finishing my hoonicorn. ive been contemplating updating the prasu for years but what is the purpose of all that if my work is for nothing? for internet points? ooohhh.... worthless..... and im not gonna ask money for the prasu either, until the devs finish the proper documentation for the community to learn how to make dev quality mods, i dont see any mod that has a good enough quality to be sold. (except a few select mod..) and even if the mod is of high enough quality to be sold.... how much worth can you even apply on such a piece of content. selling a car 5$ would be stupid. as for 5$ you almost have 1/4 of the price of the game itself, but for that much money, it brings so little content that its just not worth it. but on the other hand, calculating the cost per hour it takes to make a mod from scratch would make it go above 500$ depending how long you spend on it and how much $ you are payed by the hour. but this isnt a real job. these are mods, and at the end of the day this is why i think they should stay free. no matter what. you dont mod to make bank, you mod because you want a certain piece of content in a game and you feel the need to do it yourself. thats it. you dont have nobody else to blame but you that spend hundreds of hours making a mod for a video game. its your choice to begin with, its not contracted work.
As much as nobody wants to start paying for content, you have every right to do so. It’s your work and there’s no rule against it. With that being said, once you put a price on a product, you do have to take a lot of factors into consideration. How many people would purchase your product, how much should you charge, and what else should you provide for consumers for them to be comfortable with the purchase? This thread is a good start, but if I were you I’d make a detailed survey and spread it around. I know personally I won’t be buying this mod, only because my current bank doesn’t support online purchases yet. However, I wish you luck on your capitalist adventure, and hopefully people open up to paying for your work
I actually like the idea of making something like a Google Form with choices and such, would love to see the results. Heck I'll make one right now even
I'm not looking to get paid for modding any time soon, if ever, but I completely get your point of view. People forget too quickly.. What if you made a survey before launching the Delorean ? Everybody would go crazy about THE Back To The Future Mod and one would be surprised how much support it might have gotten
xP then theres me, editing vehicle jbeams for my cars ;-; draggin the uvs to a certain spot so its colorable... xP i need to learn things
