Is there any way of making the rims less nukeproof? When you crash into a wall they just get pushed into your car and are still perfectly round. I noticed that in real crash test the rims just shred to pieces 90% of the time (and 100% of the time in the IIHS small overlap tests).

i think the issue lies in the fact that the wheels on vehicles in this game actually don't collide with the vehicle itself. if you watch the crashes again you'll notice that the rims/hubcaps don't actually really take a lot of damage until it collides with the wheel well (which cannot happen in BeamNG until they sort out some issues they were having with it.)

Slide into a curb and see how round the rim stays.

The rims do have a damage model, but like thevidmaster said, they don't collide with the car. I hope it gets fixed. The game is still in alpha after all.

Are there different rim materials? I know some rims can be broken simply by hitting pot holes hard enough.

For you guys saying you hope it gets 'fixed'. Wheels have no actual collision triangles, and therefore collision isn't even possible right now, So simply if they fix collisions, the wheels will still not take any damage.

But the rims do break if you hit something with your wheel. Only thing they should do is to make them collide with the rest of the car instead of going through it.

If you hit something in the environment they kind of have to collide, inter-vehicle collision afaik is not planned, it would need collision triangles (yet again), and they are not on wheels so far.

They are made of nodes though and nodes can collide with coltris and scenery.

AFAIK it is off for two reasons: gameplay - you don't want your tyres permanently stuck or ripped apart by slightly damaged body parts. And maybe performance, though I don't think it would make such a big difference.

Go enable selfCollision on the wheels on any BeamNG car and see what happens. The wheel gets stuck to the bodywork and can't even spin or move with the suspension. That's why they don't self-collide.

Well i some time ago played with tires setup, and managed to weaken tires j-beams, so junkyard car recived crappy wheels, wich pop and tears to pieces on small jumps and meduim crashes. maybe not totally like in real life, but at least more easily destroable than in original game
