Ummm... the Rodius was really awfully bad looking, but not as bad as this Sangyong: A neighbor of mine had a pretty beat up brown-ish one with the grille gone, and I think it looked a bit better than the picture, but I'm not sure. EDIT my mistake, I thought that Buick was a Sangyong (well, where I live we don't really have many buicks, sorry...), anyways, here's a Rodius for added entertainment
you obviously haven't seen the rear of the actyon. it's like they saw the aztek and said "yes, that! more of that!"
The styling is ever-so-slightly reminiscent of the Benz R-Class to me, which scares me because: A. The R-Class wouldn't have been a thing till a year after the Rodius B. I quite like the R-Class and this is kinda making me hate it now Also I gotta say the 2nd gen Rodius is pretty ugly too Something's just really off about this, mainly the fact that the wheels and wheel arches are so small even though, in my eyes, they had enough space for proportionate wheels. --- Post updated --- Ok I did some research and a apparently the 1st gen Rodius had some mechanical stuff from Benz so I guess they really were trying to make a Psuedo-Benz. Spoiler: From the Wikipedia article, thought it was pretty funny Described by pundits as an 'R-Class with Down Syndrome' in 2009 it won Top Gear's 'WTF' award and Clarkson called it a coupe and a removal van 'nailed together in the most unholy merger since Caligula fell in love with his horse' with 'wheels the size of smarties'
Actually Sangyong took this pretty seriously, and have been cooperating with Pininfarina (!) on the new Rexton, which actually looks decent, and for it's price- is one of the better brand-new off-roaders on the market, in it's segment (it's much cheaper than, say, a Land-cruiser, and not that far back in it's stock off-road capabilities, although I've never driven one so I can't tell).
Huh it does look pretty good. It's cool that they got Pininfarina to team up with them, and I'm sure it'll influence their future independent designs (well...hopefully) Back to ugly cars though: I can't say I (or anybody) miss the era of Acura design that this thing started (luckily they came to their senses and now the grilles are normal (?) The current grilles don't look as bad but they aren't great either, they really should just go back to the subtle but cool designs they were doing from the start and up until around 2008.
