Is it in one of the vehicle files, preferably in feet? If not can I get the info in game. It would be nice if people modding cars would add weight, length, horse power, etc. I think some might. Again, can I find it in files or in game. I did a couple quick searchs and could not find length. So, if its here please kindly point it to me.

    Thanks.

I cannot say I am sure what you are asking. For a start everything in BeamNG for the physics is in metric units, so metres (also HP is calculated, you provide torque values). Also I assume what you are asking about is modifying vehicles, for example the length of a vehicle. That cannot be changed easily, the jbeam for a vehicle would have to be heavy modified as well the 3d model for it. If you have not already, I would do some research into how the vehicles in the game are created. The wiki covers most of the basics for jbeam.

Actually I am only making maps. I am interested in length and weight as it affects tight spots and how it handles on different terrains. Does the editor have a tape measure? I might have missed it and did a search in the wiki and did not see a result. It would be nice to measure height and depth of the terrain as well, actually I think I did see something about elevation in a debug mode. Ill have to try it, as I would like to know how high mountains are and how deep a canyon is, even if I cannot drive to it. A tape measure in feet would be perfect.

Except torque3d uses metres not feet so it would just mean more work for you to keep converting back and forth when you could just measure in metres in the first place.

Thanks for the reply, I did not know that.

It is not something I do alot, so meters would work. For example, I was working on my map last night and I wanted to know the distance over a canyon, for a few reasons. I estimated it by the length of a truck. Also, when people place objects, like sign posts, rails, or even buildings, isnt there a way to measure in between so every thing is nice and straight? I am pretty new to all of this, what is the recommended way to do these kinds of things? A tape measure in the editor would be benificial to everyone. Is there one?

The coordinates in the map editor are in meters, so it would be easy to measure something by moving an object and checking the coordinates.

Vehicle coordinates in jbeams are also meters of course. You could find the front- and rearmost nodes, usually in bumpers, and see the difference between Y-coordinates to find the length. Gridmap tiles are one meter, another way to get a rough measure.

Ok good info, I am tempted to just hold a tape measure up to my big scree tv and just use an erasble marker to draw the straight lines and distances I need. Of course, this may require two people. ; )

I was half kidding. Maybe they do make special markers for that, if not maybe I can put some sort of film on the screen to draw on. I am still kidding, but people must have tried this kind of thing. I agree, I should have said do not try this at home, as someone might interpet this as you could with an ordinary erasable marker.

If you are going to do that, you want to get a clear sheet of perspex or acyrlic that mounts to the frame, not to the LCD itself. It is solid, wipable too. You won't be exerting any pressure on the display then but will have parallax.

Acetate could also work on the display but you want to be really really light with touching the pen to it, you dont want to exert pressure to the display at all. Your display isnt wipe down when it comes to ink though. I have known ink to soak through acetate. Multiple sheets would be required.

I think really we can leave it at not drawing on your screen. That died with CRTs (I used to draw on my CRT)

I know most drawing programs have the tape measure, it would be cool, if I was a big enough geek to do what you suggested with the plexi glass and had carpender type slidable rulers above and on the side, or even better just project something like that on the screen. I wonder if there is a program out there that does something like that, as an overlay on my active window. Free would be nice.

Just found Winruler and is pretty good and free. Can be transparent, but I have not figured out how to make it always on top.

There definitely is stuff out there. Thanks

    - - - Updated - - -

Always on top is a free program that you just click on winruler (or any active window) and then it stays on top, transparent and you can then work on the active window beneath. Maybe not the best solution, it has pixels, and inches, percent , centimetre and pica. Now just need a way to convert real inches on the screen to feet in the game. ; )

You can measure vertex coordinates with blender, or jbeam node coordinates, both of which are in meters. One of the in game UI apps has the vehicle and wheel weights. To get a front/rear weight bias you can look at the the other UI app with contact forces, and find the F/R split. CG height is the only thing I don't have a method for, other than doing a summation of all the node weights and coordinates in the jbeams, (very time consuming). Like so:
