Hey guys!! Had a quick query and thought you knowledgeable folks could help me out. I’ve recently been researching into ECU tunes for my car. I’ve stumbled upon this shop which has a specific tune for my car, which promises an 8% torque increase (14nm) and 7% HP increase (11hp). I’ve been quoted $990 AUD, and don’t need to change out my ecu or anything. Would you guys say this is an acceptable asking price for a tune like this, assuming it works as promised? I’m pretty clueless when it comes to pricing!

    thanks in advanced,
    Ray

For that price for that increase in power i'd say they ought be shot, that's a complete ripoff if I've ever heard. Wouldn't bother with it

What kind of car? Are they just changing fuel maps and ignition timing? Or also cam phasers? Personally I wouldn't spend more than $300 for a PCM reflash if it is a generic tune and isn't being tuned on a dyno.

For the Regal, I can get an unlocked PCM for around $200 from ZZP that comes preinstalled with a few extras like raised shift points and better cooling fan activation. I am not familiar with prices that shops with dynos charge though.

Thanks guys! I'm still running a 2011 civic hatch with a 1.8L I4. Not expecting anything astronomical with it, just want to get a bit more power so she isn't as sluggish when the air gets hot in summer aha (but also dont want to hydrolock her in winter)!

I haven't yet seen a back shot of the new BRZ. I like the front of it, it looks like a refined version of the last BRZ, and definitely prettier than the 86

How many miles on the car? Any warning lights or drivability issues?
Have you kept up with maintenance? If not, it could probably use a tuneup now that its nearing 10 years old. Spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, clean MAF and throttle body to start. Refer to your owners manual for more info.
Not sure the next course of action to gain power on that engine. Perhaps intake/exhaust/ECU tune.

lol thats such a scam. Idk what $990 AUD is in american dollars, but it doesn't matter because we pay like $250 to get 45hp and 35 torques. 11hp increase for that much money is retarded

I bought my first car a couple of months ago, yes its a ford focus.
but here is the thing, i really like fords, don't know why i just like their styling.
Anyway, I bought it from a woman who left it basically to rot in her yard, its a 2005 Focus zetec with a 1.6 liter petrol engine, it obviously needed some work done, such as rear shocks, springs and brakes.
But, i am at a crossroads, you see, its all in all, in good nick, but, deep down, i want to modify it, like lower suspension, 3 inch catback exhaust(duel tip exit), tinted windows, and 18" ST alloys, but on the other end i want to keep it stock.
I really don't know what to do.
you know i could just buy the 1.8 liter petrol ford focus (2007) that a car dealership is selling near where i live, do that one up instead and keep mine as a daily driver.
    Notes:
    138,000 miles on the clock
fully rebuilt rear suspension and braking system
    New power steering module.
    slight cosmetic modifications
below is a pic, but it has wind deflectors now.

I would go the semi-sleeper route - maybe do the exhaust, and get nicer alloys, but spend your money where it counts. (the engine bay) I mean you could be the stereotypical lowered suspension, tinted windows guy (I nearly typed "lowered windows, tinted suspension" :D) or you could actually make the car cool. Having said that, keeping a car stock is also a respectable thing to do, so yeah, there's my thoughts.

TL;DR: Keep it stock or make meaningful modifications, don't just be another tinted, lowered, loud exhaust.

Personally, I prefer driving way faster than I have any business going and feeling the adrenaline kick in.
