Abysmal performance out of nowhere

Ok so this is a really odd issue that's occurred in the past but resolved itself over a few days of inactivity but I'd rather not wait again.

So long story-short, I was playing today (at 50-60+fps as per usual), then paused the game, left the room for 2 mins max, came back to a black screen (my pc is stupid and does this randomly) where there is signal to the monitor but it's a grey screen. So I do the usual restart of the pc then any performance in Beamng afterwards is horrible. I'm talking 30, 20, even 15 fps + stuttering.

I did everything I could think of including clearing cache, playing safe mode, reinstalling game and tweaking Radeon settings. I found Windows DVR or whatever hogging the gpu in task manager so I disabled that and while it did improve performance a tad, it's still half of what it should be.

So any suggestions? I'm at my wits end at this, it hasn't affected any other game. many thanks in advance!! :)

Have you tried any other game or benchmark and compared your results to what you should be getting? Most likely your graphics card dying

From what I've experienced it doesn't affect any other game. In fact it fixed itself when I woke up the morning after I posted this. It's very bizarre. It better not be dying because I bought it Jan 19'

Ryzen 5 2600, RX570, 16Gb 3200mhz ram. The issue has fixed itself now but it's very odd and frustrating.
