Ghost option

    Have you ever thought about adding a contactable ghost? Where you can "record" your driving?
    Like when solo racing or doing time trials on most car games (Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsports) there is a ghost of your last lap. I was wondering if there is a way to add a ghost feature that i can control when the ghost recording starts/ends, and make it to where i can actually run in to my ghost car.

    The goal of the 'Ghost' car is to allow you to run your line and beat it. Not to wreck into it. You completely void the term 'ghost car' when you make it contactable.

    According to my understanding, you are asking for a car (AI / NPC) that you can control & then interact (crash, etc.) with.
    This is already being discussed in the thread linked above. Pls. search thoroughly before posting (use different search terms too).

    Like David said, you aren't actually asking for a 'ghost car', you're asking for AI or in other words NPC / "Automated cars" / Bots.

    Read my name, then, read the name of the person who started the thread you put. Yeah, I created the automated cars thread. And what I'm talking about is not the same thing.

    actually, it is, as a "Ghost car" like you see in forza and such, is non contactable, and in some games, even transparent, if you add contactable surfaces, then youve basicly turned your idea into npc vehicles :/

    I don't know what an npc car is.
    say you can record your cars movement. like a replay that you can play for the car to drive the path exactly as you drove it. LIKE a ghost car. but instead of it being clear and incontactable, but have it to where you can crash into it.

    Everyone who reads this pretty much knows what I am trying to say, but instead of wasting time correcting my grammar, just talk about the topic at hand.

    So... What happens after you do crash into it? The other car stops moving? Because when you recorded your path nothing crashed into you... It would probably be difficult to have the cars drive back to their pre-recorded path, especially when the wheels and suspension and steering are all fudged because of the collision...

    So isn't the control-stick-on thing and the murderous AI they said they currently have not sufficient then?...

    Also, NPC cars are non-player-character cars, which is basically the same as AI I guess :) Which would basically give the same result as having a pre-recorded path that you drove yourself, except AI need more clevernes... Which your pre-recorded car thing would need too, probably, for when you crash into it... Unless, like I said, it should just slam on the brakes or do nothing or whatever.

    I think I can live with the control-stick-on thing and the murderous AI, the way it sounds, those both sounds fun, especially if the murderous AI is anything like the cops back in Driver 2 :D

    I think, depending on the force of the crash, they should either act scared and brake, or be knocked out and just coast.

    to be honest it could be a good way to do a chase. AI is never going to be hard to outsmart, but if you drive on a track as hard as you can, then suddenly you're tasked with chasing down and disabling something that's mimicking you at your best it would be a good little activity. Especially if you add other behaviors so it generally follows how you drive but is capable of some avoidance maneuvers and defensive driving.

    Actually, an extension of this is the AI should learn. So dividing a track into sectors and recording your times through those sectors would be a good way to get it to learn. The idea being that you take the best times through those sectors and stitch them all together into one large routine so you don't need to run a perfect lap all at once. It'll take the best from multiple laps, save it and set that up for you. Then not only do you have an easy context for a race but a context for a really hard chase.

    I had the same idea (sort of)
    Anyway, the only thing our ideas differ is that you just want to make a ghost-ish car pop up after you've done a lap
    and in my idea, you can choose when the ghost-ish car pops up and what you can record, am I right?
