If it leaked enough to the point of slipping, especially with stepping on the gas, its probably going to need at least a rebuild. The friction material on the bands and clutches is probably glazed from the extra heat and lack of lubrication.
Drivig around the mall parkinglot today... 2 lanes in my direction, 1 in oncoming. I'm in the left lane to make a turn (stopped at an intersection), a student bus driver is as well at the next intersection, but he's moving. Right lane is clear, one car in oncoming. What does the car behind me decide to do? Overtake me in oncoming lane, narrowly missing the car in oncoming, and repeat for the bus. No attempt at using the right lane at all, which is completely empty. I'm surrounded by idiots.
I left that Explorer at the lube/repair shop we use so they could change the engine oil and diagnose the trans leak. The issue was the transmission oil cooler line leaking at the trans. They attempted a cheap fix on it and topped off the transmission oil. It's drivable for now but it definitely sustained mechanical damage. No slipping but still gear whine and poor shift quality. And its still dripping atf. Its heading to the dealer for a warranty repair. They'll at least fix the leak but they may or may not replace the transmission. Poor shift quality and gear whine are pretty common for the 10r60 in the Explorers but this one will definitely need repair sooner or later.
Yep, Nissan CVT is unreliable. When driving in cold climate at low engine temp the CVT will delay upshift making engine noise high. The biggest problem is overheating. According to drivers in my area, when driving on a mountainous road for about half an over the transmission overheat and will delay upshift and cap engine power, making the topspeed 80km/h even with full throttle. Also when testing at high speed, the topspeed 220km/h can only be maintained for 5 minutes at most before power loss to about 160~180km/h. No, belt drive is much less efficient than gear drive, CVT may be smooth but not the most fuel-efficient. Efficient RPM can be achieved by 8AT or 10AT. In terms of DCTs, if car manufacture remove the "idle creep" of the DCT, the reliability will improve a lot. Same here, also a 4AT is more reliable.
The transaxle in the Regal isn't known for its reliability, but I have not had any issues with mine. I trust the Regal's transmission far more than any CVT though.
You are correct. Now part of that efficiency loss in the transmission is probably compensated by the "ideal" load and RPM but having a sensible geared 6 speed transmission can probably reach similar engine efficiency while not having to worry about transmission efficiency as much.
Currently unsure what i could do with my MK4 Golf because the ABS module is broken and fixing it costs more than the car is worth and with a broken ABS its impossible to get a TÜV with it.

Alright, so I get that they're trying to make it look like the first gen, but to me, it's too complicated. They made it all shiny and led, etc. But that's just my opinion. I'm not one for modern cars, except for the 2003 Thunderbird anyway --- Post updated --- I'm more of a classics kinda guy
I can't believe Honda killed off the Fit. I can understand the manual Accord's removal, but I'm surprised that the Fit must not have been selling too well either. Let's hope that Honda will come up with another tiny offering, the Civic is only getting bigger.
Rented a base model 2020 Dodge Charger and drove 386 miles in 4 hours and 45 minutes at midnight. Avg speed 81mph. Stopped for gas once. A lot of road work zones and a rain storm slowed me down but it was 100-115mph cruising on open road with clear weather. No issues with police. The charger drives very nice, is pretty comfortable, and has a nice stereo. It averaged close to 30mpg the whole trip. The 292hp 3.6L V6 and moves the car nicely when ringed out but lacks low end torque and the 8 speed transmission likes to lug it. It has a pretty stable ride and feels comfortable at high speeds.
