I have gotten my hands on this beauty yesterday. I now have to look for good games at a cheap price. (Yes i recently said i want a gamecube but this dreamcast was at nearly the same price and you can get Gamecubes easier)

Apart from a certain specific holiday, today marks the anniversary of the day I joined the forums!

Hard to believe I've only been around for a year of the endless meaningless drama the forums are famous for.

Also, I love the GameCube and even I think the Dreamcast is somewhat cooler to own

 

RIP $100 that I'll probably miss later on... unless FailRace and his crew will accept an American with laggy Alaskan internet, there is no way I will ever get that much out of it in terms of enjoyment, it being Forza Horizon and all. But there is another, secret reason for this.

The really annoying part is, all the car packs that edition comes with (except for the Car Pass) are the ones I flatly don't care about, while the ones I might actually be interested in, like the Mitsubishi Motors pack, will have to be bought separately for... probably a lot of money.

 

The Mitsubishi pack should be free if i remember correctly

 

Nevermind, ignore my mistake. I'm used to the idea of Forza titles getting a new paid DLC pack about every month until the end of updates, so I assumed that a Forza title released in late 2018 would, by now, have DLC at least equal in cost to the base price of the game itself. It never occurred to me that the game would have literally 3 paid and one free DLC pack.

Come to think of it, how long has it been since monthly DLC was a thing in Forza games?

 

Really can't remember, but instead of that FH4 gets monthly updates, each bringing 4 cars and maybe new gamemodes. Best thing is, they're free

 

With the exception of the expansions, everything after the car pass is free. The car pass provided 42 cars if I remember correctly, while the festival playlist (free updates) have provided over 100 which still come back on rotation so that everyone can get a chance.

Since the car pass was actually a shift to weekly DLC, that means Forza 7 was the last with monthly DLC which lasted from about October 2017 to mid 2018.

 

SITREP: Finished download earlier this morning, game would not start. Apparently this is a known issue with the Ultimate Edition which I believed had been fixed, but no such luck. Microsoft is trying their very hardest to avoid acknowledging or solving the problem. I uninstalled the game, sent a refund request, and did a system restore since apparently the problem is broken DRM and I wanted no remaining trace. 30 minutes after system restore, computer bricks itself into another CRITICAL PROCESS DIED boot loop with literally about 20-30 seconds of warning in the form of Firefox crashing. Had to wipe my entire C: drive (after spending all day brute-copying files to an external HDD from the command prompt) just to get Windurrs to reinstall. At least now I don't have to worry about the broken DRM if I decide to purchase one of the lesser editions (pending information from r/ForzaHorizon on whether the Standard and Deluxe Editions are immune to this issue), but on the other hand, I'm going to have to redownload everything - BeamNG, Wreckfest, World of Tanks, paint.net - from scratch, or from the files I saved before wiping, hundreds of excruciatingly slow gigabytes over probably many days. If my ISP didn't have a 300GB data limit + rollover for a year resulting in me having literally over a terabyte of data transfer banked up, I might actually try to go after Brokensoft for the data I used downloading and redownloading things on account of their AAA game less stable than most early-access indie software.

Step one, install Firefox. Always. Microsoft Edge is a great browser with which to download another browser. Step two, install four separate ad blockers to keep commercialism at bay.

Step three, go out for a late-night rip because this endless hand-to-hand combat with computer trouble is pretty much all I've done since I got off work today and I feel like I need to do something that isn't complete BS.

This rig has always been sketchy (I think, at this point, I'm going to contact the motherboard manufacturer and see if their product might be a part of the problem, since I've long suspected it could be), but combine that with Brokensoft, i.e. "the only company that can combine government quality with robber baron prices and still come out on top", and hoo boy, it's a good thing there's no drinkable alcohol in this house or I wouldn't be able to go out for that rip! I've got taskbar icons blinking out occasionally as I write this so who knows how long it will last, never had it do that before.

If all the games weren't made for Windurrz, I'd probably defect to Linux Gang just to stop the crashes.

Machine seems to still be running after my hour-and-a-half drive, so I'mma boot up Youtube and watch some Mario Maker before I go to bed. Alaska at twilight has got to be the most beautiful place on earth.

 

I have FH4 on my computer. It is just the standard edition and I don't recall any issues installing it. Good lock fixing it, sounds like its been a nightmare.

I did a couple of years ago. And yes i love the Gamecube its definatly on the list of the next retro System ill buy its either this a N64 or a Mega drive.

 

I still have mine. Black, with all possible accessories - even the dreadful WaveBird wireless controller and the snap-on Game Boy Player...
