    Cool.

Anyways, I generally believe that money is important to me. A lot of people keep saying that YouTube is a risky source of income and they might be right. I would like to use Patreon as well, but I'm worried that may not even help. I hope my passion can make me a living.

appesh1, I hope you can make a living off your passions. Thanks to everyone for giving me advice on this.

I get that that's supposed to be a joke and all, but I kind of took that offensively. He literally said he was and I didn't need you to say something like this.

@SuperchargedAndSavage!, Do you like Vomitous Discharge?

Also, I have a question for everybody. Has anyone eaten at the restaurants shown on Kitchen Nightmares and 24 Hours To Hell And Back?

Hear me out: we need a “disagree” and “?” button with the informative and agree ratings back.

The informative rating was banned for being abused, which it was. I still don’t understand the thought process behind removing the “agree” rating but I would assume it’s similar. The reason why these ratings got abused is because we didn’t have the ability to express things like “I don’t agree with what you’ve said” or “not really, no,” so, instead, the informative rating started to become sarcastic. Perhaps we also need a new rating, something along the lines of “?” so that if something unintelligible is said, it gives the poster feedback without being obnoxious or requiring replies. These two rating can fill the void for what the informative rating was being abused for without being passive and discouraging. If these new ratings get used in a way that’t not healthy, than of course, get rid of them. But we need to at least try something else apart from immediately jumping to removing an entire ratings system because it’s not working. We should fix the ratings system and not destroy it for those who use it constructively. It’s starting to seem, albeit incorrectly, like collective punishment on the community for what a few select individuals are doing. Any system will be abused. Social security and disability payments get abused, but the government doesn’t immediately run to close up shop. Ban ratings selectively to individuals, if that’s possible. Give warning points for those who do stupid things with them, but please, give other methods a try.

This forum has become noticeably younger as of late, and this might explain the uptick in unnecessary reporting. The community must adapt to this, but we should at least give some ways to allow the community to express underlying sentiments constructively instead of forcing them underground, which leads to abuse.

Tl;dr: In my view, the ratings system was broken because there wasn’t any option to say “I don’t understand/agree.” If we had these options, we could say these things constructively as opposed to immediately forcing those sentiments underground, which sowed the seeds of an abused ratings system.

    Please give your thoughts.

I know this has been discussed a lot, but we really do need at least the agree rating back. Informative I can live without, maybe that one can be substituted with a like, and it was rarely used as it was intended. Using a like as informative is a bit of a stretch in my eyes, but using a like for agree is even more of one. I don't understand why agree was removed, I don't recall it being abused, or at least with any frequency in my time on this forum. I think that the removal of agree and informative to prevent rating abuse is actually just going to make rating abuse even worse. Now, you're just going to see posts that were sarcastically rated informative with likes on them. I think if you want to stop rating abuse, you have to set some kind of guideline or rule in the community, not just take away all the ratings.

And also makes it more likely that people are going to go back to replying with "agreed" or "informative" a lot more commonly, which those ratings were meant to prevent in the first place when they were added.

Also, maybe in place of informative could return the "Useful" rating, since outside the other 2 I only see Useful actually coming of some good use compared to the rest?

Useful would be a very good rating, along with maybe some negative ones like dissagree or dislike.

Last time we had all the ratings, things didn't go so hot. There are probably a couple ratings we could legitimately benefit from, but once you get into disliking/disagreeing, things get kind of dicey.

IIRC EmpLemon did a pretty upload_2020-5-7_10-21-59.png video where he describes how dislikes are actually a good thing.

It's baffling to me that a lot of the forum users here are not mature enough to be able to correctly utilise some simple reaction buttons.

I think that the awesome, funny, informative, disagree and dislike ratings should be added back, along with a cool down so that kids can’t go through an entire thread and rate every post.
More ratings means that users can communicate their feelings on a topic more simply rather than having to leave a comment. The disagree and dislike ratings are good examples of this, as instead of having to potentially start an argument you can just leave a disagree or dislike and move on.
Removing the notifications for when you get a ratings and removing both the “ratings you’ve given/received” box in your profile and the “list” button that allows you to see who gave that rating would also be a step in the right direction.

Should we take bets now on if I'll end up one of the many "look how much I lost" r/wallstreetbets posts by the end of the summer?

    I bet yes.
