PC Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 1500 X GPU: Asus 1070 Ram: 2x8gb ddr4 2400 Hi, currently my ram is bottlenecking my CPU as i ussually get less than 60% usage. My GPU is nowhere near full usage. I can get 3600mhz ram if i need to as ram is cheap in australia. What i would like to know is what ram speed should i upgrade to so i can fully utilize my CPU? Thanks, Jake @bob.blunderton
Your RAM wouldn’t bottleneck your CPU or atleast shouldn’t if it is DDR4, do you mean you are hitting your RAM Storage Limit? 2400mhz Ram is a decent speed. You HAVE to remember, not all motherboards can cope with high latency and speed RAM, for instance, my motherboard has a max of 2666mhz, and most cheaper motherboards don’t go much higher. If you were to buy 3600mhz RAM and put it in your system, if it doesn’t support it, it will either: Not work Or It will detune to your motherboard’s max. But back to what I said at first, your RAM wouldn’t bottleneck your CPU, especially not a 1500x. If you have overclocked your CPU, and done it too much, this may cause stutter on the usage front, or, the GPU is having interference with the CPU causing a bottleneck. Please can you verify or show an image of your pc and what its doing (via something like MSI Afterburner) to help with your issue. Also, when I say about RAM bottlenecking - This doesn’t actually exist because its not the right term. RAM can impact performance, hence the ability to buy faster ram, but it can’t cause something in the sense of a bottleneck.
3200mhz is the sweet spot for Ryzen for price/performance imo, but you should only see about a 10% performance hit at the worst. Have you tried overclocking your ram? It's not very difficult and could breath some new life into your sticks.
This is the screenshot you wanted. If i set my graphics to low, the only settings that haave an effect on fps are lighting and mesh quality, with neither cpu or gpu at full usage, like 50% for both
Not really, ill show you in a second gotta get my pc running --- Post updated --- I mean like this with MSI Afterburner
I mean like this with MSI Afterburner View attachment 656584 Would it be possible for a video with the graph shown?
Try turning you refresh rate to 60hz, there is no point having it at 144hz unless you hit 140+ fps. As I also see your GPU isn’t being fully utilised like it should be. The worst slowdown I saw was caused by the GPU dropping to 10%, this may be caused by it trying to render frames that just aren’t possible on its hardware (potentially caused by the refresh rate issue I spoke about above.
My monitor is a 144hz monitor, my gpu should be rendering more frames. What refresh rate issue do you mean? Don't really understand.
Well the lag might be caused by you using a higher refresh rate than the game can display as it can cause a little bit of render delay
