the first one can be a luxury versione, like the autobianchi bianchina, the last tow ones simulate the fiat 500 "topolino" furgonata and belvedrere

I'd expect a (notchback) coupè to be coachbuilt and to feature a bespoke body design, like this Fiat 600 Coupè by Viotti:

Factory-built coupè variants only came later - see the Fiat 850 Coupè - and were generally fastback designs.

So, I'd really like to know what's preventing the Piccolina from getting realistically-sized engines.

Whenever anyone mentions this peculiar discrepancy, it's just passed off as being "for gameplay reasons", or because the Piccolina is "bigger than the 600".

And while yes, the Piccolina is a beefy boi compared to the 600 (3.57 meters long, ~1.6 meters wide), it's not Beetle huge. It's about the same size as a Renault 4CV, and that only had a 760-cc engine at its biggest. Somewhere between 700cc for the base model and about 900cc for the higher-end trims would be perfectly realistic for the Piccolina.

    upload_2020-2-29_13-49-40.png

That can stay. If Corse is meant to be Beam's Abarth, then a 1.5-liter engine in the race car is perfectly realistic - some Abarths went up to 2 liters, and almost all of them were 1-liter+.

Yeah, but that's a totally different thing. England was always more "American" than the Continent when it came to displacements, so any English car is irrelevant to this discussion.

There are more high-power mods and Automation vehicles than you can shake a stick at. Why, some of these Automation vehicles can reach Mach 10, like the Deo Volente. Just about every car in BeamNG has at least one high-power variant (JATO bus, SBR4 Hillclimb, Moonhawk Drag), and there are at least three vehicles (SBR4, Bolide, K-Series) that have base variants that can go 150+ miles per hour.

And honestly, if you were a power-hungry 14-year-old with mommy's wallet looking to crash cars at a million miles per hour (~75% of the game's buyers), would you be looking for a base-model anything? No. No, you wouldn't. You wouldn't even be looking at the mid-range trims.

No, I don't. I never cared that the SBR4 doesn't have a real-life analogue (I like it, TBH). I'm fine with the Hopper being Japanese. I'm even fine with the Piccolina having an air-cooled F4 like a Volkswagen - having some mild, non-regulatory variations between this world and Beam's world is all fine and dandy with me.

Well, then...I say why bother with base trims at all? Almost nobody uses them outside of traffic or scenarios, anyway. Just look at all the stuff you all currently do for trims few people care about.

*You continuously maintain a special 2.0-liter F4 for the SBR4 - special torque curves and everything - for 2 configurations. That nobody will use anyway.

*You have a CVT - the most hated transmission and likely a pain to maintain - for 1 configuration of the Sunburst.

*You modeled a whole new straight-six for the Bluebuck for 6 configs. Who's going to use that engine other than a couple people who can't drive the higher-tier versions (like me)?

(I don't actually want the base trims to be Thanos'd; I'm just pointing out that some of their components take a lot of maintenance work that's undone by the unrealistic engines in the Piccolina.)

I'm using this comment in place of a second "agree" rating since this is one of the things in game that I just don't understand. The official reasoning for not including it doesn't really make sense (refer to your comments about who uses base models), there is community support for it, and it would be easy by vehicle content standards.

One of the things a lot of people like about this game is that it has vehicles that racing sims don't focus on: normal cars. And yet, the base model Piccobello is like a factory hot rod...

If you want to see why a "gameplay reasons" exception was made for the Piccolina: Gran Turismo 2, 4, 5, and 6 all contain some version of the real-life Fiat 500. Trying to drive one around a hilly course borders on painful. Like "hunting constantly between first and second gear, struggling to maintain 15 MPH up a steepish hill" levels of painful. It really is that bad. Those things have less power than some modern lawn tractors and it shows.

And that would be very realistic - although the Piccolina is actually closer to the larger Fiat 850 in terms of size, and the 850 was twice as powerful as the smaller 500.

That would be also part of the "car culture" progress is progressively putting aside... :p

    America...

You probably figured it out already: there's a whole world past your borders, a world where tiny cars with no gear synchro producing less than 50HP is what you'd see in a high school parking lot of the '70s instead, and that's part of car culture as well.

Nobody is really missing the old days, but this game failing to reproduce that feeling correctly and going for Need For Speed-like "gameplay" is what I'd call a missed opportunity.

Yeah, I don't expect it to be quite as underpowered as the 500 - the base 850 actually as the same amount of horsepower as the current base 1100cc engine, so those little engines can be made to produce some decent power.

~26 horsepower for the base 700cc engine and ~36 for the stock 900cc engine should be just right. The sporty 900cc version with twin carbs could probably put out ~45 horsepower for people who still want to go reasonably fast.

So, with the help of @Alex_Farmer557 (for pointing out my issues with mod packing), I've created the Autobelli 700cc and 900cc engines. The details are a bit finicky (the 700cc engine is probably a bit too powerful; the 900cc engine might be a little underpowered), but the important thing is that they're more realistic than the current Autobello engines - and hey, it's my first proper engine mod (even if it's a bit hackneyed).

Autobelli 700cc F4 Engine: (standard) 26 hp, 50 lb-ft of torque, 5850 RPM redline, 67 mph top speed (in the stock Autobello 110).
    upload_2020-3-21_13-53-4.png

Autobelli 900cc F4 Engine: (standard) 32 hp, 60 lb-ft of torque, 5450 RPM redline, 75 mph top speed (in the stock Autobello 110).
    upload_2020-3-21_13-53-26.png

These engines also have the full accompaniment of tuning parts (literally the standard bits slapped in), allowing you to tune them up just like any other Autobello engine.

They'll be coming in this mod.

Why bother with useless things like a sunroof and notchback and small engines when we could see a BeamNG representation of the most beautiful vehicle ever made, THE pinnacle of engineering, the arete of human ability, the sole thing we can look back on 2000 years from now and say "wow, ancient humans were incredible beings of immense brilliance, power, and artistic ability".

    A multipla.
