There is one big problem with the current D-series pre-facelift, which is that it looks WAY too Ford. The amount of Bronco/F150 in that grill/headlight shape is just unreal.

I will agree that it needs modernized (early EFI or Goldbergian electronic carburetor) versions of the 291/353/423 for the old versions.

Am I the only one around here who doesn't mind config spam at all and honestly prefers it to missing configs?

Honestly this just makes me think that the vehicle selector really needs to be rethought when the new UI is made. A large portion of configurations are transmission duplicates, and facelifts also significantly fill the vehicle selector as well. If one discounts both of those, the config choice is in fact very barren, with the vast majority of configurations being stock a vehicle's trim levels, potentially multiplied by transmissions and facelifts, and "unique configurations" (police/emergency vehicles, race/rally/drag/drift cars, off road versions, tuned and even crazy custom builds) are significantly lacking.

I think they should add another "step" for the transmission.

I definitely agree a extra mile on the pre-facelift D15 would make a ton of a difference, the stuff already changed is a really nice start and I applaud the effort and time the devs invested on it, but I also agree some of the current D15 parts need to be changed so they fit an 80's car, since they can be definitely traced to the 90's, and it would look perfect.

Here's a mockup of how I suggest it should look:

    PreD15.jpg

Most of the stuff again has already been said, but here is a quick recap of everything I did anyway:

-Deleted the Gavril logo on the grill and replaced it with "GAVRIL" letters in the hood
-Deleted the rubber trim around the car
    -Added a fender antenna
-Added '80's pickup style' mirrors and door handles
-Painted the wheel arches in the lower body color
-Replaced all the rubber around the glass with chrome

And...that's it. I think it makes an impressive difference, and I hope some of this suggestions are of any interest by the devs :)

I'd love to see devs taking a look on this, specially the chrome trim surrounding the windows!

As a Ford guy I see zero problem with this.

They could do that, but to my knowledge that would require modifying the front of the body itself which also means they would need to possibly update some textures & modify the existing grilles to fit

I assume the grille was made like that to be interchangeable with existing parts. If that's the case then I'm fine with it. I do agree with everything else that's been mentioned though. The D-Series is already modern by 1988 standards. Interior, drive-train, and trim needs to be looked at.

As for the unfortunate shorting of D-Series configs: Stoat did say "for now", so hopefully we will see the full range of configs when the UI gets updated (last time we got any official word of that was August 2018 though...). It's unfortunate, but we got the current vehicle selector back when the highest number of configs was what, 8? Without a tertiary layer or a way to separate the Charro and face-lift in the primary layer there aren't many options other than what they already decided to go with. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to have a full selection for the 1985-1988 & 1988-1994 pickup and Charro all under one selection.

Maybe the Charro will be separate from the D-Series like the Roamer is... That would still leave a lot of configs though.

No it wouldn't. All it involves is making a unique, smaller pre-facelift front valance.

Wow! The D is really getting some love these days. And its a very good thing! Also, these seems inspired by the recent D Addon. Also, what's this "Charro" name?

    It's a bronco d-series.

also, judging by all the errors and shit in the top right corner, im going to assume that the update really isn't coming any time too soon.

On the topic of the '85 pickup's mirrors, I would suggest that entire new doors could be in order. considering you would possibly want an older style dash/door cards, you may as well also add a smoker's window, and give it older door handles while you're at it. (GIF for a mock-up comparison)

There seems to be a flareside/stepside now. Unless we had one before that I missed.

I've gone ahead and tried to round up as many of these ideas as possible (at least the ones that will require the minimum of reworking of the 3D models) and put them all into one post in the D-series thread. I also put a new mockup in there of what I think we can do to improve the front grill/valance area.

Re-reading @Stoat Muldoon 's post carefully, I noticed that they already had to model new bodywork, including the valance and front bumper, for the pre-facelift D-series.

Yes - that's new! Isn't it exciting? I wonder how they're going to handle bed accessories for that.

With news on the D Series getting a prefacelift, what about the Moonhawk pre face lift that was added around 5 years ago. Are there some things you can think of that the pre facelift Moonhawk could do with?

The main thing that I can think of is different taillights.

The Moonhawks rear fascia is far to rounded to be mid-late '70s car, looks more like something that came out of the late 80s-90s.

It also need a bench seat, a Strip speedometer for base and luxury models, have the current dashboard wood become turned metal or padded, change the default rims to 14-6 inchs (they fit much better and keeps in tune with the 70s, the 15-7s seem a bit wide) and add some Bruckell hubcaps and standard slightly lower profile road tires (keep the cross plies for base models) for the 14-6s, bumper overriders, Vinyl Roof with landau options, im going to bring this up again but a 4 door sedan/hardtop would bring the Moonhawk to newfound stardom, proper center console, textures, smaller and bigger V8s too go with the aging 378 engine, have emission controls on all face lift models (catalytic converters on ALL models) different auto trans available (like it shifts up and down at a certain speed and not throttle based ie: it doesn't kickdown) more chrome for luxury models, different interior colours available (with different trim patterns) and before I forget... We need a big ass disco ball that hangs from the roof and some "KC and the Sunshine band" and "Shadows" cassette tapes lying on the center console
