I've been looking forward to this one for a long time. A question: can the entire body come off during a crash?

To export normal maps, one must use BC5 / Ati2 (3Dc) compression type.
    From here.

    So how's your export settings?

You can use BC7 for normals as well.

There aren’t any updated gimp plugins to support BC7, not yet anyway.

Paint.net supports BC7 out of the box now, and the nvidia plugin for Photoshop supports it as well.

Honestly I'm not entirely sure how nascar bodypanels are done, will need to do some more research on what's welded together and what's not. If you can find me some good reference material that clearly shows how the bodypanels are done that would be a great help.

They are split up basically just like a street car would be. Front bumper, fenders, door, rear quarterpanels, rear bumper, roof, hood, trunk, spoiler. I couldn't find truck specific pictures, but these are of the NASCAR Xfinity series bodies, which use composite panels.

Also of note, the front clip (the frame section in front of the firewall) and the rear clip (from section behind the rear wheels) can come off during a crash. If you want to make those two sections separate parts that can become detached, it would improve the realism.
