BeamNG just announced a bunch of job openings. I'm fine with most of them, but I'm seriously concerned with some of their plans. First and foremost, it's obvious now that they want to release on multiple platforms (Linux + SteamOS) alongside the existing Windows software. Although it looks good on paper, it's just going to compound the amount of bugs and issues the game will face, slowing development even further. If they want to port to other platforms, they should focus on doing that post release. BeamNG also seems to want to work on more projects outside the game, such as work with "external partners in areas related to the defense, automotive and special effects industries". Again, that's not inherently bad as well, but that also should be a focus for post-release. As of now the game has been in development for nearly eight years, and having more ports and other projects is just going to slow it down even more. I don't think they want to release on consoles, only Linux and SteamOS.
They are a software/research company, it's fair that they split recources for multiple projects. But, as you mentioned, splitting recources within the game dev team to port the game is an interesting choice at this point in development (I assume they are just looking to port to Linux and steamOS, with options for other platforms later).
I just believe that they need to finish their first project before taking on additional work, especially given how long said first project has been in development.
Lets just hope that the Console beggars don't see this, or it might just become a stupid excuse for a console port.
I know I'm maybe a bit late to put my 2 cents into this, but to me, JRI is more like a mix of Vietnam & some other similiar country instead of the supposed Hawaii. The thing that says it's Vietnam for me, is the amount of trees, bushes & the overall greenery on the map, which makes it very reminiscent of the more "wild" parts of Vietnam Doesn't this just make you think "JRI"?
It looks like the devs are doing some research on porting the game to other supports... even if it's not sure that this position is about doing research on beamng.drive but maybe on another product, it's still pretty interesting
I still think that southern Japan is the ideal option as we have a lot of Japanese content, and JDM cars are already in the game. Vietnam has a very different car culture than Japan from what I can tell, thus requiring even more work, and I personally believe that Japan is a location the game has needed to feature for years. https://www.tsunagujapan.com/8-attractive-southern-islands-in-japan/ This picture of the Amami Oshima Islands looks more like JRI than anything else. That position has been open for over a year now, and I doubt it will be filled anytime soon. https://twitter.com/beamng/status/1098231985061982214
I did some more research on Amami Ōshima, and I could totally see a JRI remake taking inspiration from there. It has a number of peninsulas and mountains, beaches, and of course, jungle. The island also has a number of towns and villages, national parks, alongside an airport and ports. But most importantly, it also was under both Japanese Imperial Army and U.S. Military control during WWII, much like the current JRI. Wikipedia Google Maps Long story short, a JRI remake set in Japan makes far more sense than many other locations, given both these considerations and the massive amount of Japanese vehicles in BeamNG.
Well if that's the case I could have learned to be a UI developer in that time and gotten hired. I wonder why it's not getting filled.
It depends, as the next-gen of consoles are coming up and they could be powerful enough to run this game (BeamNG is close to 10 years old). probably worth developing some sort of text build. The biggest issue Is with button mapping and UI since this game is developed for PC Keyboard layouts.
Hopefully based of the the Fmod microblog we can get full Fmod support with the release of the new vehicle in the next big update! Thats my hopes at least!

I know this has probably been asked before, but whatever happened to the articulated Wentward DT40L? Is it still in the plans? Because I haven't heard a word about it in a while. I would really like to know.
Figured I'd toss a comparison photo in... Just a 5 second screen shot, I'm no photographer... One with headlights on and one with them off... Big difference between the dev build and public build there. I guess an XL Roamer is the thing I never knew I needed until now... The D-Series and Roamer both got/are getting lengthened versions, hopefully the H-Series will as well. And I just noticed I had the wrong trim selected... Meh...
