Hello people, it's me GWMan here. I figured I would make a thread discussing the issue of users asking for download/release date for certain mods. Look, let me make this clear. I am looking forward to the one of the mods that has these "when is the mod going to be released?" and "where is the download for this mod?" issues. It is called MAN TGS Euro 6, but I'm pretty sure the author MRcrash doesn't have an exact release date of the mod yet.

So asking "when is the mod going to be released?" is dumb. Also, people are going to answer your question by saying "When it's ready" anyways. They are not going to give you an exact release date for the mod. As for the "where's the download for this mod?" thing. That's dumb as well, especially if it's a WIP Mod like the MAN TGS Euro 6 that doesn't have a download yet.

So yeah, this whole "where is the download?" and "when will the mod be released?" is dumb. I don't wanna sound like a jerk, but I think this whole mod question about download/release date things is dumb.

    It is dumb. Period.

The hard part is making people understand that, especially new-comers to this forum

And sadly, it seems to be that this is most likely the only thing about this forum that doesn't, and most likely won't change.

This is gonna prolly be my last post here because I just don't really want to get into an argument about this forum's users

Also, this release date/download thing most likely isn't just a problem with the MAN TGS Euro 6, it's probably a problem with other mods to.

    That's not necessarily true.

I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) but there are actually a few active members on here which have autism (such as GWMan, falcon xr8 and RobertGracie) who are well mannered and respectful. So in my opinion that's (generally) not a factor.

The main issue is immaturity and a false sense of entitlement from younger members. It's also just a result of being new to the forums and not understanding the proper etiquette.

CrimsonCrocodile, I respect your thoughts on stuff on like cold weather, higher education, etc. Also, you make a wonderful point about immaturity and self entitlement from younger forum members that don't understand the forums yet. I guess we have to be patient with new users like you guys were with me.

Also, thanks for your kind words about me.

I'm a relatively new user and yet I still find myself looking down upon those who bump threads and ask for release dates—or worse, bump threads to ask for release dates. Sometimes they've even been around for longer than I have.

Let's not immediately demonize those who do these things, though. Sure, most of them are either ignorant and too lazy to read the previous posts in the thread, or entitled like CrimsonCrocodile said. But don't pretend you've never followed a thread for weeks, months, occasionally years, and you just want to know how far along in development it is and when the creator thinks they'll finish it. You're likely to get a "when it's ready," but at least you know they're still working on it. It's even more frustrating when the thread goes silent, even if the mod seemed near completion. At that point, you effectively have three choices:
    1. Bump the thread and ask if it's still being worked on, and have multituber and four other users yell at you for bumping the thread
    2. Accept that it's probably dead and move on with your life, and perhaps hope that someone more courageous (or, arguably, stupid) than you will bump it and face multituber & co.'s outrage for you
    3. Send the creator a direct message
Options two and three aren't that bad. I've done option two several times, and option three twice. News on CarSquasher's exciting Covet Champion had gone silent, and I didn't want to bump a half-year old thread. So I sent him a message, and within 15 days I got a response. (If you want to know, he said that he was busy with school and the Covet's second remodeling in 0.17 caused the bed to no longer line up correctly.) If you don't get anything after a month or so, then you've basically recived confirmation that it's dead, and you can move on with your life.

In conclusion: If the thread is active, don't ask for release dates. If it isn't, either send the creator a polite message, wait patiently, or move on.

I know, although I still didn't think that point was fair on GWMan so I wanted to add my 2 cents.

Just my opinion, but I don't find this at all annoying unless they are necro bumping the thread. Then I end up seeing a mod in the new threads list that I am not familar with, and click on it only to be disappointed that it wasn't the author who bumped it.

It would really help if people also didn't start forum threads about development of their mods when they probably know they are months if not years away from releasing a finished product.

They can take their sweet time all they want. If they are that easily offended by requests though, they'd better refrain from creating premature expectation.
