Here's an other project I've been working on in the last few months.

A rear engined V8 powered buggy with a lot of suspension travel.
    upload_2019-12-14_16-48-40.png

    Features:
-Gavril 5.5L V8 with the vanilla engine mods, letting you run the engine stock, or with a high-boost supercharger.
-Independent suspension on all corners with more than 20 inches of travel.
-5 speed sequential transmission driving the rear wheels.

It's getting along pretty nicely as you can see in the pictures, although there's still a bunch of things that need fixed.

Do I love your Trackfab vehicles :D

Can't wait till you make something reminiscent of the Formula Offroad championships like they have in Iceland ;)

I had almost forgotten those things existed

That's something I might try to hack together when we get the crawler hopper.

Since we already have most of the required components with the new crawler tires, I'd just have to build a tube frame and jbeam the thing together.

Suspension should be a lot easier than the buggy as well  Usual double wishbone suspension j-beam design guidelines don't work as well when you arms are a meter long.

Made a bunch more progress, including UV mapping and some basic skins.

On dirt it handles great. And since it's running the 5.5L Gavril V8 there's a bunch of power options.

On asphalt it's trash, but that's to be expected with the suspension travel.

Once I'm really happy with the suspension setup and geometry, a trophy truck is 100% something I want to try making.

But I have too many other projects in WIP already :p

I LOVE it. I only have one issue, in that the CV Joints seem really weak. I hit anything, even from the front and a good chunk of the time the CV Axle breaks. Considering it's an LSD as well even if one axle breaks it loses pretty much all power. Otherwise amazing! Gamepad is pretty much a requirement though.

I'll take a look at it.

I already have an update in the pipeline, mostly switching to the new bypass dampers setup that the hoppler has, letting me have a good general purpose off-road variant instead of the specialized variants it has now.

It's great but there's room for improvement.

Even though it has an LSD it feels like its an open diff, very hard to slide, very understeery in consequence.

The suspension seems a little bit too soft, too jelly. Sure, it's made for jumps and bumps but it could use some tweaking, has huge impact on handling and driveability (example: car leans to one side while driving in a straight line causing the car to pull to that side, try to countersteer and pendulum effect exacerbates the issue). Anti-roll bars are out of the question, unfortunately.

There seems to be a problem with the rear suspension. When i take a jump (Gridmap ramps for example) the rear suspension rebounds and sends the car into a front flip. Looks like decompression (rebound) happens too early.

Also, the suspension seems to get damaged after jumping? I have a feeling the car sits a little lower after landing, i have a slight feeling something is wrong after landing a jump. It might just be my mind making things up though.

    Cheers.

I kinda agree on this one, although I'm not sure it's related to the LSD's low lock percentage, especially since a lot of those buggies run open diffs IRL (surprisingly).

I've made the rear sway bar a tad stiffer and it seems to have helped.

There's also a spool option if you want to try it.

It's probably never going to be truly great in that regard, especially on the road, but the stiffer sway bar seems to help.

I've been trying to fix that annoying bucking issue for some time, trying to find a way that doesn't cause packing of the rear suspension, which is pretty bad when driving around desert trails.

I implemented the new Hoppler's dual damper setup with bypass dampers and reworked the "general purpose" setup and it seems to have helped. It's still not perfect but other than a few specific jumps which will still buck you when going too fast, it should be much better.

Is it only the front by chance? The suspension has a decent amount of scrub, and often won't fully go back to ride height when the car is stopped. I haven't had issues other than that when it comes to landing in my experience.

@TrackpadUser Yet again you have out done yourself, this is definitely an iconic mod I cant wait to see what you bring to the table next :) heres hoping its something far more awesome, but I do love its wild handling and the way it can go full jack russell terrier on you with it cocking a front left or front right tyre in heavy cornering that made me laugh so much!

Yeah just forget it, after driving it for some more time i've come to the conclusion that even if it does happen it doesn't cause any problems.

This thing is an absolute beast, the Endurodrome is like a playground for it. Really enjoying your Trackfab mods, real monsters in their fields. Maybe an Ariel Atom inspired track weapon next?
Setting LSD power lock to 90% and stiffening the rear sway bar kinda helps, but it's still very unpredictable when sliding.

Sounds fun, what do you mean?

EDIT: expected my posts to auto-merge, but apparently not
