I wouldn't be surprised if it released next week, which would give them over a week before the holidays to iron out bugs.
Yeah, they have made releases before holidays in past, but I would think it would be next week too, by 16th at latest. Or if they make a surprise, it is tomorrow
Yeah, there can always be surprises, but surely that is what they wanted to do, maybe still want to do, but if there are issues it can be postponed to beginning of next year of course. Much better to delay than release something with nothing but problems.
There have been two updates already, and they have said that the next update will come very soon. Doesn't 2+1 = 3?
No, not necessarily. While it is likely and while they most certainly have/are working towards that, there always can be unforeseen issues arising that require postponing. For example if new lighting causes some mods to totally break, they probably would then rather work little bit more on update, like Nadeox mentioned, they are working to ensure there is no issues. There is no solid confirmation of Career mode being in update, I would not be surprised if update includes it, but also I would not be surprised if it is not included. At February they were bit behind schedule of that, but it was looking good: https://www.beamng.com/threads/whats-going-on-with-career-mode.59770/#post-996946 During summer, they revealed information about FlowGraph and how it is part of the building career mode: https://www.beamng.com/threads/flowgraph.63201/ I think that if all has gone well and according to plans, there could be career mode, but it is so big thing that it could take more time to be enough robust for a release. Surely there is so big things at works that it is possible update not coming quite as planned if there are surprising issues with those.
It sounds like they've been doing quality control on the lighting for a bit already, something really weird would have to happen to suddenly delay the update that much since it was good enough to show off almost a month ago already. As for career mode, there's so much we need before we could see a "full" career mode. It would be weird to see career mode before the new UI and we need major improvements to traffic/AI and an entire proper economy system, and so on. I wouldn't be surprised to see more prerequesites though, like maybe more race modes like the drag strip or improvements to A Rocky Start or even a career mode style campaign. --- Post updated --- Nadeox referenced the game as "drive". Does this finally answer the question of what this game is called? Everyone seems to disagree on if "BeamNG." Is part of the game's title.
Speaking of BeamNG.Research, has anyone here seen the "Crawling creature" video yet? Judging by the video, the prop looks really fun to play with, does anyone know why it isn't part of the full game, or what happened to it? It would be a really lovely thing to mess around with in Beam.
It was solely created for a presentation years ago, was never intended for release, and is likely lost and/or broken.
Yeah, I remember asking about it and developers answered to it, but I have forgotten so much that I can't find the post. It was around when research page was announced I think. And for the "drive", well that is .drive, not .research those both are BeamNG and it's simpler to call it as Drive I guess.
In the Old vs. New lighting thing for the K-series, there's new (And much prettier) brake discs and pads. Also the wheels aren't black anymore, they're gray.
I don't use much mods, so the idea of having devs fixing something that only affects mods to me is kind of crazy, they should provide maybe info about how to fix it by the modders themselves, or even help through forums if necessary, but using their time for that instead of working in career mode or enhancement of the official maps and cars it's ... i don't know... kind of crazy?, but well maybe to keep happy the modders and community is more important I don't know.
BeamNG lives pretty much because of modders, devs are pretty much modders originally, even founder devs were modders of other game originally, so they do things differently from other games, they don't want to break everything constantly and go great lengths to avoid breaking mods. 1-2 years ago there was even posts by devs how they hope to have automatic mod upgrade system or upgrading mods in repo, so they are building this game as a platform for modders so people can build their dreams, well that is at least how I see it.
Yea 0.18 is either going to come with surprises or be disappointing. Honestly i couldn't care less for new lighting or the Hopper Crawler, a kind of vehicle that i have no use for. Revamps are not new content.
As for the 3 updates part, that sounds about right. I also agree that 0.16 and 0.17 do count as big updates. As far as an update being on the 16th of this month, you may not be wrong, I checked the "Tweets and Replies" section of the BeamNG Twitter account and there were new tweets, but they were only in the replies section and they had absolutely nothing to do with the update (at least as of the time of me writing this). As of December 6, 2019, the devs have not posted anything new on the devblog yet. Hopefully, they will post new information about this upcoming update soon. From the pictures of the new update in the devblog, it looked like it was good enough (for the most part) to show off, but some areas really look they need stop signs and there may have been issues with the lighting that may have delayed the update. I don't know for sure about the lighting stuff though. You do make a fair point there. Okay, I'm fine with your opinion on the new lighting and the Hopper Crawler. I'm actually looking forward to the new lighting and Hopper Crawler. By the way, you make a good point about revamps not being new content. Anyways, I would like to share my thoughts on this new car thing. I have heard absolutely nothing about a new car from the devs. For all we know, there could be a new car coming to this update, but I have not seen any pictures of this "new car" yet whatsoever. Now to be fair, when I first heard of the 0.17 update, I did not know that the Gavril Bluebuck was coming to that update, but the Gavril Bluebuck came to the update anyways, plus I heard about a WIP car called the Gavril Bluebuck before I heard about that update, but we don't even know the name of this "new car" yet, let alone know what the car actually looks like. So yeah, there may be a new car for all we know, but I heard nothing from the devs about a new car yet whatsoever. So yeah, if there is a new car coming to this update. I would like to hear from the devs about it. BY THE WAY: There is a remastered Utah map mod that is in WIP aka Work In Progress by a user called The Originators. Keep in mind that it is not the same as the upcoming official remastered Utah map by the BeamNG devs. Anyways, end of the post.
I did not care about graphics, then I got computing power and 39" monitor. Light can change a lot, you can go to steam and install DX10 beta, play East coast and see how it was, now that you have used to new East coast. Light is important and with some games light is used quite well to set the mood, having lighting system that allows you to actually get what you want is probably bigger change than first it would seem.
