You can try with this, first one does not need to be master piece that gets published, just make some fun roads, forest etc.
    https://beamng.com/threads/highly-recommended-modding-tutorial-series.55534/

Oh and Bob, yeah, if they would sell GPUs like they sell truck simulators, everyone would have a decent GPU, but that is $500 is going to be $400 even with best sale offer around. Shame they don't keep their value like gold though.

If you get nice second hand 1070 or even Ti, it could work well too, just needs to be quality model and not one with pre-installed rodents inside, some manufacturers use quieter components than others so that matters mostly.

I have so far had good frame rates and reliability from my Zotac 1060 6GB, which is about the cheapest decent 1060-6 you'll find. It does seem to produce some kind of noise (doesn't sound exactly like coil whine, I guess? but is audible through earbuds) when running BeamNG specifically, but only on certain menu screens.

If I had better internet, not to mention
Yes I am also keeping my eyes open for 'old stock dead stock' stuff here and there you find when browsing the bowels of the internet. Provided it has a year or more of warranty I don't mind. Not knocking your card though, that's about the same performance I got out of mine fully working (and about the same yet still, though I'd say she's lost 10% of that good speed). I don't know what I'll find... do I spend a day driving fetching one at brick and mortar stores, do I get a new one online, do I get a used one online, do I weed through scammers on Craigslist or deal with Flea Bay (Ebay)? I have more questions than answers. For now knowing that, I'll not be doing anything this week. I'd like it to be an upgrade, as I'd feel kind of stupid spending 100~200$ and only getting 'the same performance I had before', since it's 3 years since spending 262$ on my 8gb RX 480 (which was really good considering the mining craze started, I got mine at Best Buy during the time exactly three years ago). On used cards, was hung up between a new 5700 series AMD card and a 16GB Radeon VII or Vega 64 premier edition. Why? Because the 16gb of VRAM would really allow me to push the boundaries of this map... but... it's expensive, the Vega 64 is barely half the card of the 5700 gpu-core-wise, and who the heck even HAS 16gb of VRAM to run this in it's full glory, even if I do make it needing that one day (which I won't until the majority of folks with gaming computers have that!). 8GB of VRAM is the only requirement, and it to be 'at-least 65% faster than current card, prefer double % performance'.
The market is a mess, the stores are worse. Deals on video cards? Unless it's old stock that NO ONE (including me/us!) wants, "yeah, right"! No deals to be found! AMD has the performance per dollar crown but due to the folks I work with on here (yes I do other "work" besides this map) mostly having Nvidia, it's a tough decision. I don't want to run AMD and miss bugs that would be on Nvidia only, but the Nvidia also costs more - 100~150$ more! That's a big chunk of change.

Considering I eat, breathe, and sleep LOS INJURUS, this project is set to continue for a long time. Progress shots will continue to be posted starting next week again around mid-week (unless I get something else significant done over the weekend, which is very possible). I have lots of buildings I will be trying to model next week. The next update is tentatively planned (for supporters) around about TWO WEEKS from this-coming Wednesday (which is two weeks from the 4th, so the 18th or so). The public release will follow a few days after, which will update the current repository version of the map. That way it drops before Chris Mess, so everyone can enjoy a slightly-improved version of Los Injurus over the holiday.

Is an RX 480 better or worse than a GTX 1060? I have to admit I'm not really "up" on graphics card lingo and assembled this system based on advice from this forum. IIRC I got mine for a little over $200 but don't remember right off the top of my head where from.

Depends what you run on it, but they trade wins on benchmarks left and right, they're about in the same class. The GTX 1060 has a stronger GPU core but the RX 480 8gb has 25% more memory bandwidth and 2gb more of VRAM, leaving it relevant a little longer as games push for higher detail. 2~4GB cards are a write-off for new purchases these days (only good for HTPC or light gaming if the I-GPU does not suit), but 6~8GB cards are where it's at right now. Anything more than 8gb is just a bonus, and only a few games will use it. That being said, a friend of mine with a 1080 Ti showed me a game wanting 16.4GB of *VIDEO* RAM!!! I believe it was the Resident Evil remake, If I remember correctly - all options CRANKED to the max. Wow. I'd love to design this for a max of 16GB VRAM, but alas, no one has that. So 6~8GB will be the max area of which I design and spec this map for. Unless it gets late in development and I absolutely have to, I won't be raising this map's requirements above 8GB VRAM & System RAM (that's measured WITH a few windows open, web browser open with a few tabs and such).
So entirely, you basically have the same class of card as I do, you're in good shape for a while. I'd wait until at-least another series of cards is released from BOTH brands (6 months to another year), before even thinking about upgrading. Me on the other hand, I have to keep my eyes peeled in the here-and-now. I'd really, really love to see what I could do with a 16GB VRAM-equipped video card though - even if it's not the newest and best.

Disconnected AI lane causing havoc in the traffic, where the 'removed / incomplete bridge' in the latest beta crosses the 8-lane section of highway (where the city highway meets the mountain highway). Consider that BUG smooshed.
See picture below (mini-map shows the bug too)

Gotta love the sound of squishing bugs, even if they're technical here.
I can definitely say, when ever I fire up BeamNG to drive around, I always fire up this map now.
I even drive on this map more than Roane County now. (mainly because my current system can run this map better than Roane, due to my graphics card being old)

I think that Roane County is lighter to run for GPU and this map, but Roane County might be quite bit heavier for CPU.

The worst spot in this map is NOT any worse than the worst spot (downtown Harriman by the bank about three or four blocks off the bridge) in Roane County TN map. I think Roane County is worse, by a noticeable bit. The old ECA map assets were very 'heavy' to run and Roane County is full of those. It takes only 1 block worth of ECA assets to do the 'FPS DAMAGE' that many many (6x) blocks of my city do. I did a test, which is why there were a bunch of ECA buildings over on the far side of the city (this was before I made many custom buildings). The test/concept block with ECA stuff repeated the same symptoms my old Roane County map did.
Downtown Harriman in Roane County pegs the CPU hard core, more than this map does, it's also harder on the GPU than most parts of this city (if not all of it). The only reason why THIS map uses more GPU than Roane County is because Roane County pegs the CPU so hard, the gpu doesn't even stand a chance of getting any lovin' from that map (because most of the time by comparison is spent waiting for the CPU). So entirely, Roane County's towns are 'CPU bottle necked'. I will not repeat this same issue here.

In other news the power flash this morning shut off the computer, and I think it is the last straw for my video board. It's got scrambled-screen issues now sometimes randomly at boot-up & caused it to restart earlier 'we're sorry but your computer has encountered a problem :(' screen. I said to myself 'hey I recognize that from Linus Tech Tips videos' because he CONSTANTLY is crashing Windows 10... So now I've flipped it down to 1100mhz, hopefully it stays, going to try and get a few more days out of it because I'm too lazy to drive to Knoxville on a Sunday @ 3pm, and Monday doesn't look good either (most people would write it off at this point, not The Bob, The Bob will keep using it until the machine no longer boots at all). I am sure the oven method would work, but seeing as we have some fancy 850$ oven in the kitchen (one of those dual ones), I'm not going to be the one to put toxic chemicals inside something we prepare food with (no, seriously, you shouldn't do that. Use an old toaster oven or a heat gun to prepare your computer pastries of the 'integrated circuit' kind, if it's hungry, and do it in the garage).
So I guess that's something I have to handle this week... *sigh*. What next, will it rain cows?

Is there really a difference these days? GPU load of both maps is miniscule, CPU load is not too much, American Truck simulator is much worse in both.

You really need to get GPU sorted out before it shorts out your PC!

Only GPU fail on me has been Ati I think, Still have gts 8800gts 512 which works just fine, but there is no use for such slow noisy thing anymore, but then again I'm not letting games run more than 60fps usually, so load for hardware is not constantly maxed out.

Bob, isn't iGPU soon better than your fading GPU? Or did your CPU have one of those?

Well I took the RX 480 8gb GPU out just before reading this. The retainer mechanism on the slot came out with it, too. Thankfully I didn't rip the slot off the board.
Can't say the same for the Asus Maximus VII Hero Z97 motherboard. Nope. Slot came out with the Radeon 7850 2gb card still attached to the card. Whoever designed those unreachable mechanisms, I'd certainly like to beat them up (and rob for the cost of the replacement board for that machine) now. I am actually shocked the whole slot came off, but with the wrangling involved in yanking out that card, I doubt the Z97 board would work yet at all regardless. Didn't work on the front USB / Sata lines anyways anymore so I don't really care. Will replace it next year sometime. For now I'm just trying to quell the bully in me (who wants to beat up the guy / guys responsible for designing that rubbish)... which rarely comes out but will always be there. This is also why, as an adult, I used to walk the meanest streets and alleys at midnight where I was from, and never got beat up. The bully inside me - which contains all the hurt I've ever endured - is my best friend that goes everywhere I go. Thank-you Martial Arts discipline for helping me save that hurt, to put on anyone that deserves it.
No, seriously, my hands can't reach either of those retainer clips on either board, even with the stock cooler on this one. I don't have 'short Trump fingers' either, they're pretty long but pretty big (almost 40 years old)... so if I can't reach it, and I couldn't move the machine because either one is 60~80lbs and my back is shot... what's one to do? Next time I'm using a damn crow bar, Gordon Freeman is my hero.
Next time I get a motherboard I am removing those clips asap, they're not necessary unless the case is out of wrack severely anyways & diamond shaped.

So never-the-less, I'll just have to go out somewhere this week and figure out something to buy. I can still edit and model but I will be putting off that 100$ substance designer program purchase a month.
No working computers were harmed prior to the writing of this post, only previously injured ones half-murdered by a power surge. Well OK, maybe the slot retainer clip on this one, I hate those things.

I remember having that retaining clip syndrome too, but with my current system there is no such trouble, with water cooler there is plenty of space, but those coolers are priced bit crazy.

Well, before this I used dumb end of pencil to open that retaining clip, it just needs a little prod while pulling from corner of card. Some motherboards have so narrow retaining clips that it is bit hard to push them with anything, current Asus have nice thick retaining clip, so it was quite easy to open, unlike that useless Gigabyte board, there only way to get card out was to take cooler off first.

I did play bit of yellow submarine with Ford Mustang on your map and Hirochi raceway is much heavier to run what I saw, your maps are not much heavier than gridmap.

Hey Bob, you planning to add little GTA-SA-Esque stunt jumps here and there? Really want to launch a Caprice off of an overpass, full 80's movie style.

There's already jumps EVERYWHERE... just look around, there's so many things that blend in that are actually jumps. I will ALWAYS be finding ways to cram more of them in, of course. You can bet your life on that.
That being said, those 70's~80's car chase/crash movie scenes were to live/die for back then growing up in the 80's and 90's. Didn't matter what you wanted to see, if you were flipping through channels (if you had cable especially), and you saw an old car chase scene, you stopped and watched.
If you have old movies with areas / scenes you'd like to see in the map, DO post some (family friendly!) stills of the movie here. The print screen app for PC's can help you get screen grabs from online. Also, GOM player (among other things) can save stills from encoded video you may have on Bluray / DVD or your hard drive. I will do my best to honor all requests *and* it hurts nothing to give it a go, you have but only a few minutes of time to lose. I enjoy stuff like that - if even only for the nostalgia - but rose-tinted glasses aside, there were some pretty cool scenes out there & they're always good for ideas! Even posting some of your favorite scenes in GTA SA or GTA V is just fine, too (or pick your own driving game). I loved GTA SA and still do - and always will - hence I mention DO try the 'GTA Underground' mod that's been out about a year now. It's a hoot!
To live and die in LA - this one comes to mind first - but even SPEED had a good highway jump scene.
...oh, and... Nice cat, but it doesn't look too happy though, I reckon. Are you bending it at right angles - or bathing it?

If you plan on making the city head up into the mountains, a Bullitt recreation of the chase through San Francisco could be an option, especially while getting air time.

Thanks guys! I am doing my best.
I am fixing lots of 'red text' errors in the console right now for bad paths, file names wrong, missing texture entries, and so-forth to make this much more error-free when it loads.
I have another issue with two of my terrain textures not working properly (they look fine here but they're actually problematic behind-the-scenes, they're 'rigged to work' for now). I am spending hours trying to see what the game engine is throwing a stink about, put in to the staff about it. Doing this helps keep this map from going to the dogs in the future.
I have a new 2070 Super on the way with no RGB or anything like that, just a good solid well-cooled card that will last a while (it was damn hard to find one even in stock before Chris Mess!!!). We can thank @CrashBoomPunk for it because he's [censored] awesome, and put in a nice chunk of extra dough on it. So watch his youtube channel here (below) if you get a chance. Without him, I would have had to 'settle' for a regular 1660 non-ti or 1650 or a Radeon 570 8gb up to a Radeon 5700 (though good cards, they would have been a bit slow by 2021 or 2022 and I keep my cards 3~4 years or so). I keep my cards until they're almost worthless (less than 100$), then I upgrade when I can to something that's AT LEAST twice as fast. I don't need the fanciest stuff, I don't need nor want the best. I just need something I can take pretty screenshots with and run the map at it's high settings without a slide show when testing. How can one create the games / mods of tomorrow with hardware from 7 years ago (my current card is a 7850 2gb Radeon DirectCU II, which still works 100%, Thanks ASUS)? Without you folks supporting this map, I would have just thrown a 1650 Super 4gb in and been done with it, as I wouldn't have had the software or asset sources to soak up more than 4gb of VRAM on high anyways. With YOUR support, I can make this a reality. No not those ugly temporary subway stations, I mean NICE stuff that looks the part (they're just temporary and at 'concept' stages right now). I'm talking about the nice buildings, like the police department and the airport, and some buildings modeled after real buildings like the Frank Douglas towers.
This is going to be awesome, the mod to rule all mods - the mod with everything for everyone, that will even run on near-potato PC's, and I can't do it without you guys!
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN1i5mDtOx0m_3Z18WsSibA

Don't forget to like or subscribe. He does really awesome video compilations in a variety of ways and subjects the cars and the maps I make to all sorts of mayhem. Without his monthly support I would not be as far along on this adventure as I am right now. His videos are fun to watch, entertaining, a great show of what can be done with this game, and more than others he also matches the beat of the music to the action. Now that takes talent.

How many is too many AI cars? Davidinark will tell you surely, a great mature take from a genuinely kind-hearted man who's about 10 years my senior. He's been supporting this project monthly for quite a while now - so do give a watch here, as I personally love his take on things.

I also have more-than-average monetary support from Wreck Station. One of his videos is below. Please give these a watch too when you have the time, like and subscribe.

Thank-you again for the support everyone. I was able to replace the hardware that failed unexpectedly (sort of, I had some warning), without cancelling Chris Mess presents for four children ages 11 and under. They're all my sister's and her boyfriend's kids and all but one isn't spoiled (we're working on the last one, that's hard to take out!), so I'd like to do them nice gifts this year.
Other You Tube folks are encouraged to support the map (if they can and find it useful) as I will surely add video feeds periodically as a thank-you and kind gesture, when using this map.

All You Tube personalities and crash-channels will be honored inside the map, along with all other Patreon supporters, as I get to creating the related assets.
I couldn't have done it without you folks - and while I was still paying for around half the card out of pocket, without using up the Patreon funding, it makes things possible on a fixed income. I am keeping the Patreon money aside for software and assets. I have textures to purchase this month and I am going to try and get Substance Designer before it goes off sale on Jan 3 on Steam (it will revert from 99.98$ to 149.99$), and also have my yearly renewal of World Machine to renew as money allows (I'm not going to put myself in a hole though!).
This is just my way of saying thanks. While the card going POOF has somewhat slowed me down, there will still be some map progress and more roads built in the mean time. I will be working on textures as I am able in the mean-time, and fixing a few old maps too. Scrambling the desktop two mornings ago was the RX 480's last hurrah.
The Chris Mess supporter and public updates will still release before the holidays, and they will have a lot less red text in the console AND be more future-proof, too.
So big thanks to all. Modding continues.
Just fixed Yellav Valley by Ouerbacker tonight, so that update will hit the repo in due time. FPS might improve a bit and trees' view distance now works properly.
Will be working on Nevada Interstate next, for those that get that random lag when rotating the screen, yes I will fix that. Otherwise you won't see a difference aside of 'maybe a few FPS'.
