What are the top 3 rally cars I should choose as I want a rally car that doesnt act like a boat (like the crown vic), a rally car that can actually rally and slip the back end when needed, and can actually steer when told to.
(Must be an official beamng car, not automation)

Hirochi Sunburst, doesn't get that much classic.
Ibishu Hopper or Gravil D Series, Offroading + Power = Rallyproof
    Gravil Bluebuck, MANUAL HYDRAULIC SUSPENSION

I-Series because it's the only rally config with low end torque because of the straight 6.

to be serious, the ETKI rally spec is a great choice
to be less serious, a Legran Sport V6 with a stick and rally tires is also fantastic

The Sunburst has good handling and power, but the suspension is too weak, even a two-wheel moment can break the steering. The Pessima is very good if the gearbox is sequential. ETKI rally is underpowered, even the TTSport Evolution has more power.

-Gavril D15 with a massive supercharger
-Autobello Piccolina 150 with a hopped-up engine and allseason tires

Bit of self promotion from me...

I know it breaks your official cars rules, but it isn't automation, and it does drive decently, so there is that.

The Raven R60 Rally edition: https://www.beamng.com/resources/raven-r60.6875/

Its primarilly a gravel setup car, but that is the only somewhat up to date video of it that I have doing rally type stuff.

Old Pessima rally config, take out turbo, set it as RWD only, I think that has been most fun for me, not fastest of course, but most fun, especially with Douglas rally map I did enjoy that greatly.

For official AWD rally configs, I set 40% front and 60% rear power distribution, then stiffen center diff locking to keep that distribution better and that is really helping to get me into rallying feel. Also toning down brake pressure to minimum so I get more of my brake pedal's range in use.

Less power is often something that helps me as my skills are not quite up to those high powered monsters, something like 200hp is plenty with RWD, even 150hp is fine, on paved roads more power is needed.

Front diff locking makes car go more straight and rear diff locking makes car slide more with AWD, you need to balance to your taste as different people drive so different way.

I concour that 200hp for RWD rally in BeamNG is typically enough.

With that said, I think with the right vehicle geometry, more should be fine. I haven't quite got there yet though. But hopefully the following shows that 300hp could work with some slightly improved geometry. (and pope levels of throttle agression xD)

And that video was with the above car (not public yet). Which has more or less the same ride height as the road model.

You are not using vanilla values for bumpstops, I think? Your car handles so nicely all that rough stuff.

Yeah, a lots can be done by modders, in vanilla game there are rally cars that are not pro level stuff, so they are not going to handle quite as much as what you can build.
I'm starting to be so slow that for me even 100hp is enough to have fun between the trees, more and I just can't process information enough fast :p

    Rally R20:
    Code:
                {"beamPrecompression":1.03, "beamType":"|BOUNDED","beamLongBound":1.0,"beamShortBound":0.21},
                {"beamLimitSpring":1000000,"beamLimitDamp":10000},
                {"beamSpring":39000,"beamDamp":0},
    Road R20:
    Code:
                {"beamPrecompression":1.0, "beamType":"|BOUNDED","beamLongBound":1.0,"beamShortBound":0.15},
                {"beamLimitSpring":1000000,"beamLimitDamp":10000},
                {"beamSpring":47000,"beamDamp":0},
The limit values are the bumpstop values. Precompression is the ride height.
The suspension for the R20 is a little on the stiff side, that tends to help with the bigger compressions, but can make stuff a little less supple on the smaller bumps when combined with the damping. But improved steering response too, unfortunatly everything is a trade off xD

I would say its not as stable as the 4wd rally cars in game, but maybe that is an unrealistic goal for me. But obviously if I can find an authentic way make a RWD rally car that outhandles the official 4wd content, I'm gonna try it out.
