TBH I do like those IRL, but even as someone who wants to see as much official content as reasonable this is still deep in "leave it to the modders" territory. I remember there being a mod that did this to the pigeon though. And if realism isn't a concern, you could use the chain from the official flail, though at that point you may as well just use the node grabber.
Old topic but I actually did this, and it works, you can even transfer throttle, and brake inputs to the trailing car (s)
