i think it would be really nice for the wentward dt40l to receive a facelift. The current version looks alright but not modern enough for me. A coach bus should also be a good addition as a Mod.
I agree. The DT40L reminds me of the Gillig Phantom transit buses I used to drive 1989-2001. Nice old school look... but outdated. I haven’t seen a “quad-rectangular headlights” bus in years. All the buses today have those small, “movie projector” LED, dual-headlights now. And low side panels, with tall windows, like the passengers are all sitting in a fishbowl!
I must admit, I was a bit disapointed that we got a generic city bus instead of one of those old monsterous coachbuses or weird vintage buses. The thing is, this game is lacking too much in normal vehicles to be focusing on adding a second entirely new bus. If we get a second heavy vehicle, it needs to be something we don't have which is also versitile. Class 9 truck, older medium duty truck, etc... Hopefully the Wentward will see some expansions. IIRC it's borderline too old for alternate power sources, but there is the bendy bus UV. A simple facelift could bump up the years to modern levels, warrernting alternate fuel versions. I'm not sure if that would be realistic but IMO it would be a fair compromise.
It would be completely reasonable for the Wentward to be built into the post-2000 era. Commercial vehicles like city buses, Class 7/8/9+ semi trucks, vans, and the like were often built for over a decade, with some (like the 1940-1982 Gillig Transit Coach and the 1940-1969 GM "Old Look" Transit Bus) being built for up to four decades with only minor revisions. Here's the production years for just a few of the Wentward's contemporaries/inspirations: GMC Rapid Transit Series: 1977-2003; 2006-2012 Gillig Phantom: 1980-2008 Gillig Low Floor: 1996-present New Flyer D40LF: 1991-2013 Nova Bus LF Series: 1996-present Orion V: 1989-2008 Big city buses run long production cycles, and the Wentward is one of the few examples I can think of that was built for less than 10 years.
I was thinking more of a major facelift and putting in modern hybrid systems though, not just minor revisions. My University uses the Nova buses (7 of them along with 2 Orion, 1 NFI, 1 Bluebird, and 1 replica trolley) so I am partial to that style, but that's some serious plastic surgery for the Wentward.
Genuinly curious, why a modern coach bus and what scenarios? I would love to see an old school giant coach bus, but I really don't see how it would be useful enough to warrent so much effort for such a specialized vehicle
I think the devs should do the following for a modern bus: - A more round body and features that are less square - More comfortable (but still cheap) interior - Bicycle mount on the front (additional modification) - Some type of eco-diesel hybrid engine (maybe even electric now that electric motors are an in-game thing now) along with a sticker for that - LED lights
