One time I was playing New Vegas and was sniping some raiders.
At the time I was enemies with the Legion and uh... lets just say that when your concentrated on something. Being pulled out of that view only for some guy to yell at you is quite a jump.

In Dirt 4, i was focused as hell in a rally stage when all of a sudden a drone in the game flew straight at the camera. I didnt know the game had drones flying around but it was so fast and sudden it looked like a spider flying at me. Needless to say i jumped and started having panic attacks.

Shifting down a gear when you mean to upshift is a pretty common one that I experience. It’s especially scary in Beam when that can mean a blown transmission.

With me it's usually switching back and forth between manual and automatic. In Beam with a manual or a paddle shift, and in all other driving games, it's left paddle to downshift, right paddle to uphift. In Beam with pure automatics, it's reversed so that left takes you up and right takes you down. Money shifting automatics this way is more common than manuals for me.

Dug straight down into a ravine, was left with 1/2 heart and skeletons everywhere. Somehow managed to block jump out of that one alive. Never dug straight down again.

In Kerbal Space Program. When I didn't saw Jebediah Kerman (He's the main guy anyway) on the list of available crews.

But then I remembered that he burnt up during re-entry (I accidentally made him trapped outside my space shuttle) and hence, he met his death.

    New here. Hey everyone.

So that's a horror game? I thought Mario and Luigi we're family games.

I've got one: so I was working my way through Far Cry 2 a year or so ago on the highest difficulty. That game is particularly tense and has a brutal atmosphere (war-torn central Africa), but isn't an out-and-out horror game. The way the non-unique story missions go, you are tasked with killing, stealing, or destroying at some location around the game world, either by going into it whole hog, or using a more creative but longer approach as suggested by one of your 'buddies' (allies that appear only when your health runs out or during these missions). I opted for one of those creative approaches.

Anyway, I'd just finished wiping out the main objective when the buddy calls for help because he's just been ambushed in a smaller satellite skirmish, etc, etc. The 'buddy options' usually have a small cooldown fight to bookend the mission, and this one was close enough that I didn't bother hopping into a vehicle. I emerged from a tight valley onto a higher plain among the tall grasses of the savanna, so visibility and situational awareness were already pretty bad. The buddy circled around to take cover in the neck of the valley behind me, while I cleared the remaining hostiles quick as a could, finishing the mission.

Then, I started back toward my vehicle, parked in the valley I'd just left. I was passing my buddy as he was clearing the battlefield for supplies when, suddenly, he started shooting at me. And screaming in a South African accent, even though he was Chinese. Turns out, the guy I saw in the neck of the valley minutes before wasn't my friend, but an enemy that I'd accidentally left alive when I cleared the mission's main objective. He never saw me, so he wasn't shooting, and he wasn't an objective, so he wasn't keeping the mission from finishing; there was no indication he was even there. But he had tracked me. Not, he saw me and chased me down (one of us would be dead by then if he had). He literally hunted me from the previous objective.

Can't really recall if it scared the bejeezus out of me at that moment, but realizing enemies can track you down on foot for potentially miles made for some tense moments in the game from that point on.
