The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in Virginia has the car on display. It was in their lobby when I last went through it four years ago.

I believe the deceleration suffered in a crash would be similar between an old car and a new car. We can survive G-forces far higher than those involved in a car crash, anyway. It's mostly about how well the car itself holds up to the impact, and how well the driver is restrained.

I don't think it would have. In the Hemmings article, according to the author, the car was for sale for a good price. It was unrestored (I think,) and it was the closest thing to a new car that they could get for the test.

Oh, I missed "that dude." Yea, if the car was involved in an accident, the person would've died.

It’s a rusted, pre-68, X-frame GM on a platform that dates back to 1928. What do you expect?!

It was clearly stated in the test methodology that both vehicles were free of rust and were not involved in prior collisions. It was even brought up in a later news article about the test with an interview from the previous owner - They sought a rust free example from the southern states, and that's what they had.

This "crash" always make me thinking....why can't we have a modern day chevy that look like a 59 impala and yet crashed like a 09 malibu's(or any car that got better score) ?

Because that's not marketable, would be expensive to make, and 90% of people would find it hideous.

So , apparently people don't want a "good looking yet still safe and modern" car today ,I guess.

It's not that, it's that everything is designed by committee and it'd look like shit because of that.

what's wrong with people these days finding a car that was actually styled by stylists and not by safety wardens ugly, anything made since 1997 is just plain, boring, looks like a childs toy blown up to stupid proportions and utterly useless ( with few exceptions) and part fun the fun of driving an old car is knowing how incredibly unsafe they are, however though they are just my opinions

I don’t think a car from 1959 would sell very well in today’s market, mostly because it’s from 1959.

You don't get it- Automakers need to sell marketable cars that the masses like, not unsafe and outdated cars that a relatively small community of people like.

no I understand that they need a marketable and modern car to sell otherwise they would be condemned to the history books but I just don't understand the styling, if anything its more dangerous due to lack vision all 'round, I cant even see out back of my dads camry and another thing some people need to rely on lane assist and auto parking when they shouldn't even be driving at all. I feel sorry for my generation when someone from my school say they freak out when parking because they don't how because their mum or dads car does it all for them, it should be all of you driving or all the car driving no inbetween because its just down right dangerous at time
