It's an X-Frame, one of the weakest seperate-chassis designs of all time.

Theres no need to insult someone because they aren't aware of something. Also, I believe gabester changed his mind, as the bubu in the video clearly has an X-frame.

 

What just happened here?..

The Bluebuck in the teaser has an Impala style x-frame; not the indestructable Imperial style x-frame/ladder hybrid. Should be strong in front end collisions but weak in side collisions.

 

Me being a goof, that's what happened.

 

To all you folks whining about the X-frame, it shouldn't be too hard to reinforce it Imperial-style with a mod.

 

the iperial frame was so strong that they were banned from demolition derbys in the 70s, but it was a 60s design: i thik that the bubu will be undoubtably strong but it will have the typical chassis resistance of a bar of soap like any 50s american sedan

 

The Imperial was all new in 1957 and that frame lasted until 1966. That's the version that was banned from many demolition derbies. So, not all 1950s cars bent like a bar of soap

Arguably, it was just the GM X frame cars from 1958 and onwards that were poor crash performers. Not just in side impact, as one would think, but also frontal. the front frame rails would collapse right under the front seats where they start to turn toward the X as there was no fore/aft support. This is why the 1959 Bel Air was such a disaster in the IIHS test. Had they tested a 1957 Chevrolet, or a 1959 Ford or Chrysler vehicle, it may not have been as bad.

 

So a Slightly better X Frame. ok.

 

Would it be helpful for the Devs if I shared detailed photos of the 1959 Chevrolet crashed by IIHS? It shows how the X frame bent/collapsed.

 

They've probably seen that a million times during research.

 

I'm sure they saw the video. But I crawled all around the car in person:

 

All BOFs with bodies of cheap low strength steel (aka the one used in car bodies until 80s-90s) crumple like paper in side collisions.

 

Huh, where is it now? (It's a shame they crashed a fresh car. The talk about '"rust dust" isn't accurate, I read an old Hemmings article discussing it.) Also, I doubt the Bluebuck will be that fantastic in any collisions. It's an old car.

 

They interviewed the previous owner - The car is from Georgia and that's the colour of Georgia clay.
