Yes, I do have an 8320. It runs Drive great. I still have a hard time on some maps with the cargo box truck (~28fps), but with the race update bringing better performance, I'm sure it will run perfectly.
Would you be willing to see if the extra cores on an AMD chip help with more vehicles? My thoughts are that while AMD processors seem to do worse here than Intels based on general community feedback, they may gain the edge when more vehicles are involved because of their higher core count, which will become the norm once the gameplay side develops more instead of the single car free roam most users do currently.
@Above more cores does not automatically mean it will get better fps, as it doesn't change the fact that beamng is still 1 car per core, and that intels have better single core/thread performance then amd, while amd cpu's are fine for most other games, because of their single threaded performance, they will have some slight problems with beamng
I also have an 8320 as well as an r9 290, is there anything you guys want me to test out? Just tell me what to do
Second revised build. Changed 780 out for 290. I like AMD's set of features more but didn't consider them due to their inflated price. That seems to be going down though, I am still considering the 8320 though. I'll have more than enough graphics horsepower to max it out with PostFX and as long as I can get a steady 60+ FPS on all maps and all cars, I'm happy. R9 290s can easily be found on ebay at or even slightly below their MSRP, BNIB too. Newegg.ca they seem to have more or less reached their original price which is really tempting also.
Is there any reason you chose that specific RAM? I quickly found thesepacks of RAM that are a little cheaper (mid $60s) this one's PC 10600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313086 These are PC 12800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313355 <-- I actually have these same sticks, they work just fine. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313266 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104262
No specific reason why. RAM is always that one part that's just there for price reference. I usually just go for the cheapest sticks I can find.
oh ok. thats good, I was hoping you weren't going to pay 20 something dollars more than you had to for RAM
Yeah, load grid map, highest settings @ 1080p and spawn 4 covets, then post a screenshot where we can see the fps. Then try with 8 cars. This is mine with a 4-core intel: *Results below*
well i just did it on the map called grid map, not grid pure...im gonna redo on grid pure - - - Updated - - - well, lets see if the image files appear when i attach them... --> yeah just mouse over them to see what each one is I used fraps to show the FPS, not sure how you got the box to show in your image --also i have three screens, not sure how they impact performance since they just showed the desktop edit ----oh keep in mind too the stock clock speed is 3.5 GHz and its supposed to turbo to 4 GHz, but I overclocked it so the turbo is 4.3 GHz without having to raise the voltage
Some tests with my i7 2600k @ 4.1 GHz(? Possible thermal downclock, very hot today) 1050p, can't go higher but it's close enough. The one with higher FPS is obviously unpaused. EDIT: Got a GTX 760 and 1600MHz RAM. To get the box, hit ctrl+f.
I'm trying to figure out a way to make a table for this, could be some helpful data - - - Updated - - -

CPU AMD FX-8320 @ 4.3GHz Intel i5 2500k @ 4GHz Intel i7 2600k @ 4.1GHz

#Covets 1 1 4 4 8 8 1 1 4 4 8 8 8 8

Physics? ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF

FPS 114 142 45 107 14 61 96 105 64 101 16 92 19 94

edit oops just realised that i put the i7 numbers with 4 cars and not with 8
We could have a table for 1,4,8 covets both with physics on and off and put those results for each cpu, like this: I suggest we start a new thread and create a table like that, and when people do those test and post pictures then the op adds them to the table, so we can avoid threads like ''cAn i runz beamndrive, I haz amd pls halp. - - - Updated - - - I think it's best doing it my way, similar to yours but with the cpus on the side, so you can add people without worrying that it will be too long horizontally.
yeah, i agree, its just i already posted that before you commented...i am in the process of writing up a new thread for this data, if thats ok, ill use your format for the table
I started the thread, titled CPU Performance in Drive, I encourage people to post their numbers, it would be helpful to others looking at what framerate they should be getting or what to expect from a processor if they are going to build a PC CPU-Performance-in-Drive
Thank you loads for making such a thread. It should clear up some confusion for not only me, but for a lot of users hoping to run the game.
