Floating gears (Shifting with out a clutch)

I am wondering if this is supposed to be a mechanic in beamng. I have been able to do this multiple times but it has been very finicky. You can do this in real life but it can be kind of tricky. When I have done it sometimes it makes the sound of the gears grinding but sometimes it doesn't. I would appreciate if someone who has more knowledge of beamng than me could explain what is happening. Thanks!

 

it's easier in real life because you can feel when the shifter wants to pop into gear. also, try cars with heavier flywheels, it's a lot easier.

i'm talking about beam. it's entirely possible and isn't very hard, just takes some practice. it is supposed to be a mechanic bc it's part of the manual transmission simulation
