UPDATE 2019-08-16 Beamng 0.17 is out! Awesome as always! Sad thing though is that my Alternative Lighting changes to maps wont work. Can be updated though so no big deal, will only need to change sky and light settings for the maps again, only timeconsuming. A bigger sad thing though is that the changes ive made to getting the ingame PostFx window fully functioning incl (unreleased active) white cutout, better quality SSAO, higher resolution DOF, correct offset and falloff and more userfriendly settings for bloom, the tonemapping working and so on IS NOT WORKING ANYMORE. Seems like the Beamng devs are up to something good though cause theyve move some of the files to another folder (Renderer) which makes me think theyre up to something really good. Sadly i dont have the time to look into this now and not for a long while, if at all. Kind of sad tbh. If youre using these files delete them if 0.17 acts up. Whats its all about? Ive missed Tonemapping since iy worked in BeamNG in the dx9 days, it gives way more dynamic to the image (thats more or less its purpose). Instead of harassing the devs any more i decided to fix it myself. Learned enough of shaders and T3D (the base game engine BNG is developed from) to go on that quest. While trying to get it working i found a few other things i decided to have a look at. This is the result: Tonemapping Contrast works HDR Enable tick box works Some more of the PostFx UI sliders do their job now (i think i did that...) SSAO high quality hardcoded (afaik it didnt go up to full screen resolution before, which made very noticable edges around objects, unless you blurred the living crap out of it and loosed the crispiness of it) Did something to DOF, cant remember what, might have upped the resolution there too Color correction path now has the original files, and works, when you click Browse I wont release this as a part of my Alternative lighting cause this is not an alternative, its enabling Tonemapping so a whole different thing and something all should install/use to be honest. Do what you want with the other files, if you like them keep them, if not then just delete them. My Alternative Lighting mod hasnt been adjusted to everything of this yet though it will be, meanwhile ive put together a start kit with the above mentioned files, new WCUSA sky and lighting settings, and a postFx preset for that. Its not optimal but atleast gets things going. Installation instructions: core and shaders.zip - Unzip in your Documents/Beamng.drive folder -Tonemapping is in the Shaders folder, if you only want to keep that, should work without the other files. If it doesnt work, try clearing cache. WARNING, these files are delicate to the graphics of BeamNG and are in no way futureproof, a game update might lead to problems. west_coast_usa.zip - Unzip in your Documents/Beamng.drive folder -WCUSAs sky and lighting settings adjusted somewhat to tonemapping perfectizi....dreizehn.zip - Unzip in your Documents/Beamng.drive folder or wherever you like, its browsed for ingame -The in-game preset, blown up settings to enhance tonemapping. As @fufsgfen said, its very strong now and personally i use less tonemapping. I encourage you to change it to your liking. Also have a look at Key Value and Minimum Luminance. Bloom will be effected so youll probably want to look at that while youre at it. Do not change adapt rate, it has since the beginning of time led to flickering bloom, might or might not look into that. I encourage you to change TOD to early noon or evening, its rare to see high noon in other games because it just doesnt look the best with the sun at zenit and 100% brightness. Some videos and screenshots of tonemapping in action:
Another map for you to try out. Quick fix if you like. For levelsItaly.zip TAKE NOTICE: extract into your Documents/Beamng.drive folder, NOT the levels folder since its already in there, trying to keep it simply for the users. Also a new PostFx preset adjusted for Italy,, dont know how itll look on other maps. Will take on to have one preset for all maps but that requires me to adjust every map to look good to that and will take time.
I"m confused. Should I have to download all of the files attached? Or can I just install the mod, adjust the PostFX and play? And does it save across different levels?
Unzip coreandshaders.zip in your Documents/Beamng.drive. Thats it. It will give you tonemapping, higher quality ssao, higher quality DOF and a functioning PostFx HDR Enable-tick box. IF you only want the Tonemapping working you can unzip only the core folder, it should work but i havent tested myself. If you want my specific 'look' then download the map zip and also the preset zip.
doesn't seem to work. what should i do? i unzipped the coreandshaders file in documents\beamng.drive C:\Users\Alex\Documents\BeamNG.drive is that right? and what do i do with the perfectizionefjortonpostfxpreset.zip file?
No problem Im continously updating the maps and presets since i got it working, heres another Italy map settings and PostFx preset, this one is better than the last one IMO. It takes more advantage of the Tonemapping without darkening it the whole image, thanks to bloom, light rays and lens flare. I undestand this might be confusing but im going to incooperate this in my Alternative Lighting mod, not there yet though. --- Post updated --- Yes, that is right. Then your new folder should be: C:\Users\Alex\Documents\BeamNG.drive\core and C:\Users\Alex\Documents\BeamNG.drive\shaders You might need to clear cache. The preset file you unzip where you want. Then you open the ingame PostFx window and Load Preset. Do you know how to open the PostFx Window?
Im getting food atm so ill have to get back to you. Try this, might be wrong though. Hit Options In Graphics (opens when u hit Options) you will have a button that says PostFx IF you dont, try hitting Overall Quality rollout and choose CUSTOM twice (half way down the Graphics settings) and it will show up a bit further down.
Way to find PostFx. If it isnt in the list i have to click CUSTOM twice in Overall Quality. If im already playing and open it from ingame i HAVE TO click CUSTOM twice for it to show up. It doesnt show it in the vid but when i press Load Preset i get to choose the preset file.
Did you see the video? Reason im asking is i got it unlisted so it cant be found if searching for it. If you did what i did in the video and theres still no PostFx button then theres really not much more i can say. You should have a button for it, nothing else should be needed :/ Might be others with the same problem so maybe a search of the forums will help?
ok i've checked i have the necessary files. should my folder look like this? and yes, i watched the video
It looks just fine. My files wont (shouldnt) effect the PostFx window to not show up in the menu, it should still be there.
This mod isn't completely working for me either. The "enable" checkbox for HDR works, but the tonemapping slider still does nothing. I've installed the mod as instructed in the OP.
