Why does it feel like there’s always some sort of twist (Old dev, severe bug, trolls, etc) in every single thread that the devs post?

I don’t really know what to think about IRC as I never used it, I never thought of it like a chat and like something left over from the 2000’s....That did turn me off, but could be something with being a millennial. I’m not sure, maybe an attempt at a spruce up with the IRC? I have no idea.

Also, wouldn’t with Discord, stuff technically being in two places instead of only on the BeamNG website?

 

Currently they have Steam and this forum to manage, then support email is one communications channel I guess, also youtube channel and I have no idea about reddit or twitch.tv presence as I don't generally use those much at all.

Not sure if there is even more that I'm totally unaware of in addition to those.

Add discord to that package then, not sure how time consuming that would be, but obviously they would need to monitor and address some support via that too? There are things to consider.

 

I think everyone who commented in this thread wants the discord to be a chill, relaxed place where we all try to be normal and dont be dicks to eachother on, but Beam is a game which grew hugely from release till now, and i would expect there to be 10 year olds yelling : ''I FUCKED YOUR MOM LOL'' daily.

I use discord almost daily and been using it since 2017, the biggest sever that im in has 1600 members, and random trolls and shitholes join pretty fast, weekly i would assume. Now, that is a discord for a dutch youtuber with not even 100k subs, and Beam is one of most popular car games at the moment, i would assume that the discord would go over 10.000 members pretty fast, and there is no way that it will stay chill and relaxed forever.

If the Beam team is going to make a discord, they would have to look into how discord works, how to set up the roles and stuff, what channels there are going to be, et cet. There is no way a ''Lets hope it will work well'' will make the server good.


Staff team, dont underestimate the discord, and if you simply do not have the time for discord, i doubt it will be a good idea,
That said, the discord is a suggestion, if iyou cant do it, dont do it, its not something very important (In my opinion at least).

 

I just did it in the exact same way as you did. Without any furhter pre-notice, etc. Now as I said, it is still fully possible to continue on, but please, read my previous posts in this thread and I still am up for some arrangement. But, if you still insist not to, I don't mind.

There are right ways and ways that are not so right, revenge, attempts of domination by using power are perhaps not the right ways.

 

For my part this has nothing to do with "power", "dominance". It was a mark of protest since the BeamnNG's management toward the service have been utterly brown things.
I do not want to repeat my self, but generally, the lack of a two-way communication about issues and changes, and now the proposal for this change, without I even knew until last night, made me just take this action, in protest as I said.
If I were to completely give up and don't fully care, I wouldn't sit around watching this thread either, mind you...

 

A Discord server is great. Such as the [del]Unofficial[/del] Official Automation Discord, with good moderation from both the staff and designated Discord moderators. I wasn't in the unofficial beamng discord, but as far as I know it was quite cancerous without proper moderation. I'd say that if the Discord users break a rule in the server they're banned both from discord and from the forums (Idk a way of doing it).
I think there are many reputable users around the forums that would like to become a moderator for Discord and relieve devs work.

That exactly IS using power, you are making use of power by creating a protest, it is your attempt to prompt some other party to some action, which is use of your power. Obviously you are frustrated by lack of communications and certainly it makes you feel many emotions as something you have provided for so long could be changing, but I can guarantee that this course of action which you have chose is not most prosperous one.

100% agree, you're one of the only few brave enough to actually bring these points up regarding management. Props to you.

 

Thing is, that the IRC was set up via two servers, meaning that BeamNG could still operate one, on their own. Why should I bother run a facade knowing that the server is going to be delinked anyway; hell, what if I was never aware of this situation and suddenly within a few days now I would just see the link go down and I don't know why. No, this is all on Thomas.
