I'm from Portugal. We are famous for our amazing food, talented writers and poets, and of course our obcession with football. Our economy is terrible, our politicians are mostly corrupted (we have a great pres though), and an alarming percentage of our people is iliterate or barely literate. Our cars are far too expensive, both new and used, and we can't even drive them. Seriously, portuguese drivers are the worst. We also can't maintain a car for shit, since most of the cars you see on the street are covered in scratches, have faded paint, or even massive dents or missing parts. Even brand new cars are like this. Genuine car people are hard to find here, however when you do find someone who shares your irrational love for internal combustion driven modes of transport, they are guaranteed to be fantastic people. Another thing to note is that we're quite pessimistic, while at the same time retaining incredible ingenuity. We are sad by choice, in portuguese culture, tragedy and sadness is a thing of beauty, and is extensively romanticized in novels, poems, etc. In fact, tragedy pretty much runs in our blood. I can't think of anyone in my family who hasn't lived through a dictatorship, suffered in a pointless war, been divorced, died by an accident, attempted suicide and/or many more. Hell, I myself have felt the kiss of misfortune many a time. Why we aren't a world famous superpower of "just f*ck my sh*t up" I have no clue.
